When I built my computer about a year ago, I intended to learn about overclocking, but never got around to it.....Anyway, I am here to learn now and have a few questions that you guys may be willing to answer. First I will let you know what I have:

Asus K7V mobo
AMD 700MHz
Giant heatsink with two fans
256 Megs of RAM

When I go into the bios, I think there are three things that I need to change, but don't really know what to do.....Here is what I wrote down:

DRAM to CPU Frequency Ratio: 3:3 (can be set to 4:3)
CPU Frequency: currently at 100MHz
CPU Vcore Setting: 1.60V

Isn't there some formula that determines what your CPU will run at?

Anyway, what do I need to change to overclock this thing? I am not looking for anything crazy.....I just want to get as much as I can out of it without blowing up my computer.

Any help will be much appreciated.

A coupla details, is the AMD a classic Athlon or a Tbird (from the sound it is a classic but i wanna make sure), the classic Athlon had a few drawbacks to oc'ing, one being the fact that the first gen Athlon mobos (which the Asus K7V was I believe) were not good oc'ers boards. They typically would not work above 110 or 111 fsb and the only way to deal with the clock multiplier was through a device called a goldfinger device (so called because that is what it looked like gold fingers sticking up) and this entailed disassembling the Athlon from its casing and installing the device on the naked cpu or cutting a spot out of the casing for it. The classic Athlon may not be the place for a novice oc'er to start but if you wish to give it a try, post back here and I will get you some URLs with the info you are looking for. Hope this helps. :)

First go to the asus web site down load the bios for that board 1008c is the one you want. This bios will allow you to set the L2 cache.

Keep the setting 3.3
TRy to up the 100mhz
leave voltage alone unless you try to overclock then move it a little ata time

Also GET A GOLD FINGER DEVICE,ANd read tips and tweaks from here and other sites.

Well, this all sounds a bit more difficult than I belived. I don't belive that cutting holes or opening up my cpu is something that I am ready for.....next time I build a computer, I will make sure that it is overclock freindly.

Thanks for the info guys.
