hi I'm looking for a decent Webcam for online meetings...I'm willing to spend about $50 I guess. Can you tell me what brands have decent quality? I have a cable modem if that matters at all.

I made the mistake of buying a cheap webcam. Don't be like me.

Logitech has always been a good brand to choose.

cool..then logitech it'll be. Thanks guys. Is there a difference between a USB cam and non-USB kinds? Will a certain kind be smoother?

YES, go for USB. others are too slow so you get choppy frame rates.

Now I don't own one but I seen the 3Com Homeconnect webcam in action and all I have to say is sweet. With a $100 price tag I would pass on it in favor for some other hardware but to each his own. Now as for USB or Non-USB let the figures speek for itself.

Serial Port: 115kbits/s (.115Mbytes/s)
Standard Parallel Port: 115kbits/s (.115MBytes/s)
USB: 12Mbits/s (1.5MBytes/s)

I know which one I would choose....USB all the way

i have a creative labs webcam 3.

its kinda cool i guess, i dont really have anything to compare it to.

the creative labs software kinda pisses me off, it locks up a lot and stuff so i just got some free third party stuff.

i doubt you can really go wrong with any name brand. if you aren't sure just goto yahoo and type "<product> review" without quotes where <product> is the webcam you wanna check out then read a couple reviews.

One of the best deals ever, although I didn't find it here.

I have a Logitech Quickcam and I don't like the low res. at all. The quality of the unit is very good, otherwise. I also have a Kensington SVGA with noticeably better picture quality and it's an all around nicer unit. The tilt works better and it has a hole one the bottom for a tripod (I don't know why someone thought of this, but the hole is there.) But, the Logitech was $40-50 before rebates and the Kensington was $100 before rebates, so what do you expect? The Kensingtons (3 models) are on sale really cheap this week at CompUSA, as noted elsewhere.
