hi everyone,

two quick questions..
just got a tbird 1ghz, abit kt7a, and 256mb crucial cl2 ram.

i also have a diamond viper TNT2 Ultra card, and a old Adaptec 2940SCSI pci card.

here's my questions:

1) there is a option on my viper TNT2ultra card to switch it to 4x agp ... should i?

2) i was planning on trying to overclock my system. maybe eventually to 9x133 = 1.2ghz. will that screw up the SCSI card and the AGP? like shorten the life or make the system unstable?

thanks all!

Sure... switch it to AGP 4x if you want. It'll make next to no difference in performance, but give it a try. If you have problems like lockups or things acting flaky, try switching it back to 2X. 4x on some boards with some video cards causes problems. Don't expect a performance increase at 4x though. You most likely won't see one.

A KT7A should be able to run at 133mhz bus speed without causing you any problems. It'll just change the divisor, and run the bus speed at 1/4 instead of 1/3, and the AGP at 1/2 instead of 2/3, to keep them in spec. That way pci and AGP speed will still be 33mhz and 66 mhz, rather than 44mhz and 89mhz.

Older BX Chipset based boards didn't have this option, so anything above 100mhz bus speed overclocked the whole system, and there wasn't anything you could do about it.
