this guy is amazing...
today it was announced that WWFSE has purchased their ALL-TIME rival WCW!!!
who cares if the XFL has the LOWEST ratings in the WORLD.. this man has successfully accomplished his goal in life... he has the founder of ECW as a color commentator... and his competition is now part of his foundation!!
what this basically boils down to is.. that WWFSE is going to stay FOREVER...
the irony of it all .. is that.. about 5 years ago.. WWF had a pathetic product... was almost going to go out of business... this is when the entire Bret Hart incident occured at Survivor Series...
WCW was #1 .. they were sucking away at WWFs' viewers... giving them a sucker punch EVERY week on monday night!
then CEO (i think) Eric bishoff went on radio and said that the WWF was pathetic... that they would dissappear in a couple of years... a sick twist of fate expelled bishoff from WCW and now... there is NO RIVAL for the WWF!
AMAZING the way things turn out!!!
welcome to the WORLD of inter-federation PPV's!!! WOOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!

Yeah, i don't care much for wrestling either (well the FAKE kind anyway)
I honestly think that pro wrestling has lost alot of its following. At one point, every college age male was watching/worshipping it. But that doesn't seem to be the case. The show may have picked up a few more loyal followers, but that isn't going to make them a powerhouse. The one thing that networks and production companies rarely seem to get is the famously brief attention span of the 18-24 year old male. I think that WWF/WCW has had it's 15 minutes. The same thing will most likely happen to the "reality" shows. They will just fade and fizzle out.

viewers come and go... thats true..
but there are always blurps... you just need that ONE THING that gets em back...
it's like a REALLY volatile market...
it's either REALLY high or REALLY low (viwership).. but you always have those loyal.. like me.. who have been watching wrestling since the early 90's.. some even MORE...
this'll probably bring another blurp for a couple of years.. then they'll need to find something new to do...
but vince IS going to make a SHITLOAD of money!

I remember back in 7,8th grade when my friends and I were all wrestling each other during recess pulling moves that we had learned from Hulk Hogan, The Ultimate Warrior, Honky Tonk Man and Jake the Snake Roberts...WWF wrestling was one of the most popular games in the arcade and we were all collecting toys. The crazy thing was that I was living on the other end of the world. Wrestling has certainly had its glory days.
I'm not sure what's going on now since it has been long since I have lost interest, but recently I watched the movie, Beyond the Mat and boy, did it bring back some memories. Most of all, it disclosed all the mysteries behind the industry that I had always wondered about. I knew it was fake, but to what extent? It was quite amusing watching the relationship between wrestlers. The Rock and Mankind would be talking like friends before the match planning and coreographing each move, ten minutes later the Rock would beat the shit out of Mankind in one of his bloodiest most dangerous matches. Ten minutes after the match the two were smiling shaking each other's hands and the Rock was hanging out with Mankind's kids while Mankind was getting stitches to his head....It was a very amusing, yet depressing scene. It's interesting to see the real lives of these people. For them it's their whole life.

I still remember the time when they insisted that everything was real. :)
Oh well, "professional wrestling" will always be soap opera with steroids for me. :heh:

I loved WWF! Hulk Hogan was my hero. I was saddened when he turned into Hollywood Hogan , and was disgusted when he made movies. but such is life.
I met the Honky Tonk Man 8 years ago. It was pretty cool. I got my picture taken with him and everything. So did my sister. Of course, none of my friends had any idea who the Honky Tonk Man was. But I was ecstatic.

I think you got it backwards. He is a Dog!
Look, I can't even GIVE AWAY my XFL tickets:

And they cost $40 each!
What a flop. This was one fad that died after the first commercial break.

Not that the XFL is fixed or anything, but how come the games always end EXACTLY on time?? They fit too neatly into the 3 hours allocated. I have seen games both in person and live and it is quite bizarre. When things are moving very quick, suddenly there are a few injuries and long drawn out plays are run. When it looks like things are taking too long, suddenly they run the game clock even when the play clock isn't running.
Then again maybe I am just imagining it... yeah, me and the other two people who are still watching it on TV.

It would be too damn hard to choreograph a 3 hour show with a shit load of people. If they in fact are choreographing it, then i must say its more amazing than a real football game!

Hehe I used to be into wrestling bigtime back in the day of Hulk Hogan, Ultimate Warrior, and Andre but I stopped when I got into high school. Then back in 94 when I lived in Germany, I got tickets to watch Hulk Hogan fight Rick Flair! It was funny Rick was like 60 years old but he and Hulk were working the crowd just like back in the day. The Germans there were so into it it was crazy.
It was pretty cool to relive some childhood memories.

ALL Football games are "choreographed"
It is referred to as "calling plays". Unless you have a maverick quarterback who is ignoring the coaches or a bunch of morons who can run a route, the players will do exactly what someone in the booth or on the sidelines tells them. The difference that I am suggesting is that perhaps rather than having two coaches that are truly in competition and trying to guess the other's strategy, maybe some plays are set up for both sides by one person.
Imagine that the offense is told to run a draw play and the defense is told to prepare for the bomb. The offense now will get some yards and run over the defense who is unprepared. This could liven up the game for an offense that was previously weak. Also, maybe one player could be encouraged to hold his opponent. Since this is a relatively "safe" penalty there is little risk of injury. The refs (who are the key players in a WWF match) could then be told to call the penalty if it would negate a big play by the team that is crushing the other one and perhaps ignore it if the game is running too slow or it helps the losing team.
Remember, if the game is a blowout, tv viewers will switch to something else. Therefore, the closer they keep it for as long as possible, the better.
Also, with the game clock, I have NEVER seen them "rewind" it or put any time back on. Even in high school football, they do that. Slight manipulations of the clock (running it when it should be stopped or stopping it when it should be running) can easily reduce or extend the game time without anyone realizing.

Blowout or not, that's exactly what viewers are doing . . . hehe . . . The ratings for the XFL are pathetic. The XFL had the lowest prime time ratings in history.
BTW, stupidzbu, maybe you should remember that the WCW lost $80 million last year. That's why Time Warner sold it. Sure, it consolidates the WWF's control over professional wrestling and creates some little promotional goodies they can run, but I really think the WWF is overextending itself via ventures like the XFL and the WWF restaurant in Times Square. Vince is TRYING to become an entertainment "mogul," but his programming does not have the "mass-appeal" necessary, nor is it diversified enough to appeal to wide enough variety of people. All it does do is appeal to the LCD, and that is simply not enough to raise yourself to "mogul" status, let alone enough to actually earn respectability.

or atelast.. it used to be when they had HUGE numbers of people watching.......

I remember when Sgt. Slaughter was a bad guy come to take Bob Baklin's (sp?) title away.
Tony Atlas was one of my favorites, as well as Superfly Snooker. Anyone remember Black Jack Mulligan, the big Texan guy in the black cowboy hat who managed to give Andre the Giant "The Claw" on TV, with little "censored" logos covering up all the bloody parts? I always liked wrestling more when the acting was all done INSIDE the ring!
Oh, and the best rivalry ever had to be the series of matches pitting tag team champs Mr. Fuji (when he wrestled!) and Mr. Saito against Chief Jay Strongbow and his partner who's name escapes me at the moment. After getting cheated and beaten unfairly on at least 3 or 4 occasions, the Indian tag team finally wins, and the show closes out with the two embracing around their belts, and Chief Jay Strongbow repeating the words of victory, "We can go home now!!!"
