I'm having a little problem with Windows 98 here, and wondered if you guys can help.

You see, without my knowledge, Windows 98 detected my ASUS P3B-F mainboard as an ACPI (Advanced Power Configuration Interface) compatible board. Trouble is, ACPI is giving me nothing but grief, and I want nothing to do with it.

Is there a way to remove the ACPI functions so that I have zero power management at all with my system?

when you want to install windows type "setup/?" it'll give you a list of options. Intresting part is that i was dying for ACPI when i got my existing motherboard 3 years ago, I LOVE IT! I'm surprised it installed ACPI by itself, when i installed windows i had to do it with the -p (i think) extention to make it recognize the ACPI. Maybe if you tell us what problems your having we can help you out.

Hmm, guess that's what caused ACPI to install.

I typed:

setup /p g=3 (basically, this puts the detecting hardware phase into Verbose mode, so that I can see exactly what it's detecting). The /p switch also enables ACPI I believe.

I think I may have found my instabilities: I'm using an older SB AWE64 soundcard that uses a VxD file of some sort. Going through the Knowledgebase indicated that this may cause a few problems with ACPI (having the VxD sound driver).
