Well I registered a domain name with Network Soulutions, for the basic service on 3/21. I've now decided that I'd prefer not to have the domain linked directly to my schools server, and I just want to have a redirect page (A service which they offer!). Now their giving me some bullshit about how they cant add that service, and that I had to order that when I first bought the name. Any ideas? I don't want to register a new name, and I'd rather this not be a costly process.

A little clarity please. Is Network Solutions hosting your web site? (It doesn't sound like it but I want to be sure). If they are not they have no right to object to a redirect, which can be a very simple web page with no action required on the part of the web host.

here is the solution (there may be others).

Simply find a HOSTING company that offers redirection and MOVE your name there. A few I know charge about $45-50 a year for this, but then you get dynamic redirection and also custom redirection of emails (i.e. some names can go to one address and some to another)

Thats the thing, they don't consider it as NSI-manged Web Address, because I didn't select that in the signup process. I ordered the 'Domain Name Only (Web Address)' with free under construction page, for $35. Not the '1-Page Starter Web Site' with free 1-page Web site or Web forwarding, and free hosting for $40.

It's a $5 difference!
only way I can think of doing it is calling up my CC and having them dispute the charges. Hopefully they will release the Domain and I can sign up with another service.

TLG...I am a poor college student. I just paid 35 for the site name, and NS offers redirection for a $5 difference (if I can get them to charge me for it). I'd rather pay as little as possible
