It sounds like you have mono. They can't really help you if you go in and check it out other than tell you what you have with a simple blood test (called a Monospot). If you take penicillin with your mono, you'll get a funky flushed rash (some people anyways)... just thought you wanted to know. Avoid contact sports because sometimes people's livers and spleens get big with mono and you don't want someone rupturing your spleen.
Now, you could also have strep pharyngitis as well (Strep throat). For this, you should go in and check it out. If you have strep, they can either (1) look at it and tell right away, or (2) check it with a quick swab test called a "Rapid Strep" and tell you if you have it. Then they'll give you some penicillin and you'll be ok. If you don't treat it though, it could develop into rheumatic fever which screws with your joints, your kidneys, and most important, your heart.
So you may want to head over to the clinic. Chances are that it's mono, but you never know. A lot of other diseases also present looking like mono - "mono-like presentation" but I'm not gonna tell you about them.
It's hard to diagnose things with just the symptoms. Of course, everything looks like tendinitis to me.
Practice saying "My Spleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeen!!!"
That should come in handy when you are playing any contact sport. From what I understand, mono and the occasional ruptured spleen go hand in hand. And a ruptured spleen is no fun.

Ack, that most defeinately sounds like mono... and I just got diagnosed with that about 2 weeks ago.
I was at school and went to the school docs... blah, they just said I was sick and sent me on my way.
So then a week later I went home for spring break and was feeling really sick. My throat was all swelled up and I was really achy and tired and all the symtoms. So I went to a real doctor back home and they di a blood test and found out I had mono. And basically said that there wasn't much they could do cause I didn't have strep or anything and that I just needed to rest.
So then it got worse... my throat kept getting infected and swelled up. My lymphnodes were just HUGE and it kept getting worse and worse. First I couldn't eat solid foods, then couldn't drink anything or swallow, so I went to the hospital... and to make long story short spend 3 days in intensive care. They gave me heavy doses of steroids and I got lots of morphine for the pain :D ohhhh happy drugs...
But if it continues to get worse I would definately suggest going to a doctor or clinic or something, they can give you steroids to make the swelling go down, and some antibiotics for the throat. But basically you just have to take it easy and get lots of rest, that is if you have mono.
Blah and I have finals coming up soon too... not a good thing, I am so far behind cause of this sickness... suckage.
Hope you feel better and that things turn out ok.

Mononucleosis (Mono)
Mononucleosis is a contagious viral disease that affects the lymphatic system as well as the respiratory
system. Teenagers are most commonly affected, however, it may occur at any age.
Symptoms - Symptoms include an intense sore throat, fever, fatigue, headache, loss of appetite and a
general ill feeling. The lymph nodes in the neck, underarm, and groin may enlarge and be tender to the
touch. The tonsils may enlarge and become covered in white spots. Some persons may experience an
enlarged spleen and liver or a skin rash.
Causes - Infection of the Epstein-Barr virus that is spread by contact (it is nicknamed the "kissing
disease" due to the probability that it is spread through saliva). Risk of contracting mononucleosis
increases with stress or lowered immunity due to sickness or overworking.
Diagnosis - The diagnosis is based on observation of aforementioned symptoms and physical examination
complete with blood work.
Treatment - There is no medication or treatment for mononucleosis, however, it will run its course in a
few weeks with the fatigue lingering for a period of time. Over-the-counter analgesic medications such as
acetaminophen (do NOT give aspirin for this or any viral infection due to the increased risk of Reye's
Syndrome) may help lessen the fever and discomfort. Rest is vital to recovery. Gargling with warm salt
water may help soothe the sore throat.

I hope she was worth it THS. ;)

This is only vaguely related, since everyone's already diagnosed THS as having mono. I was reading an article for one of my classes about the killer germs that mankind has essentially created. All kinds of bacteria are now partially or fully immune to penicillin and other antibiotics because of their rapid evolution and because of people not fulfilling the requirements of their prescriptions.
A few people in a hospital somewhere in the US (article didn't say where) were infected recently with a version of staph bacteria that resisted every attempt to kill them. Fortunately, they've got some new class of antibiotics that was available just in time, but scientists are running out of ways to synthesize new germ killers.
Scary shit, huh? I'm sealing myself in a bubble now. See ya, everyone.

Does mono cause one of your hands to type faster than the other??? :P
The Happy Squirrel
03-28-2001, 12:42 AM
heheh well this particular strain is advanced and can mutate into affecting typing skills.
its also causes one to spend 18 hours in bed and 5 3/4 hours on the puter while tkaeing the remaining 15 min for bathroom breaks a to drink water

Did the doctor tell you that mono affects your sexual performance later in life and that your penis shrinks an inch. I know he doesn't want to scare you but you should know this. Also your body carrys a specific scent which might make a stray dog or two try to hump your leg. The only way to get rid of the scent is to take a bath in nonfat lemon yogurt while listening to richard simmons sweating to the oldies tapes.
Get well soon and watch out for those ol dogs!

no no no... it only shrinks his little squirrel on one side, giving it a pronounced lean, which becomes a bend if the infection progresses far enough, but not affecting overall length. don't scare the poor guy. so is it hangin left or right, bud?

Welfareloser, now your giving HS too much info and maybe the docs don't want him to know this is one of the side effects of the disease. Happoo this really happens. There are medical cases documented in the AMA archives. No more kissin for you Squirrelly

hehehe
somehow this turned into a thread about my "little squirrel"
odd!
o well if it shrinks an inch ill just have to make some movies cause the camera lens adds about 1 - 1 /12 inches to the observed lenght of a penis

I dont think a movie about a Happy Squirrel with a 2 inch penis would sell. :P

first year of college, I got influenza, bronchitis, and mono all at the same time. Mono lasted 5 months. Took it as a sign from God not to go to college.
