Collecting info on build/getting a new system.
Was wondering what would be the best/least expensive way to go to get good performance? What would be the best proceessor to overclock and how do you do it and what does it cost compared to a fastter CPU? Don't need anything earth shattering but I do want fast. Trying to keep everything under $500.

thanks Cyric

$150 1 GHz Thunderbird AXIA
$110 MSI K7T Turbo (KT133A)
$100 Crucial 256MB PC133 CAS2
$80 Radeon 32MB DDR LE
$15 Thermaltake Volcano II
$80 Antec case with 300W powersupply
----
$535

Then add your CD/DVD-ROM, floppy, soundcard, etc.

If all you can afford is $500 for a whole computer...forget it. Save up some more money.

if so, you're into just 350 or so for your system...tough to work with. I'm partial to the Celery/Duro budget computers. Ther Celerons are stripped down P3s. The Durons are stripped down Athlons. They tend to be quite inexpensive and overclock well.
Generally, a Celeron will cost about half to 65% of a P3 and will overclock to aboug 35% of its rated speed. At the same MHz, the P3 will be faster, but you saved yourself some dough.

Right now, the 600-800MHz range is where the bang for the buck is.

my $0.02.
