http://www.ultimatecomputing.tvI have revamped the content on the site and it is now a portal to reviews from vast tech sites, also there is news you want to hear about and soon to be reviews of the X-Box and its games.

Wow. Needs a LOT of work. Links to "breaking news" stories that aren't there anymore, missing hyperlinks, typos galore, and they think that the HP CD-RW/DVD drive is used for "downloading". Looks like a junior high school effort. I'll pass for now.

Love the headline:

Is there room for another game counsel?

That's all we need... another game lawyer!

Note: counsel = lawyer, console = game unit

Geez take it easy on the guy. All I can say is that without Leon editing my reviews my grammar is horrible. Also if you guys have been with us since the early days, you will remember that our site was not the best either.

Yes, but only to a point. I'm not going to trust their knowledge (which is the whole point of a tech review site!) if they consistently misuse words & meanings.
Now if only LPM could use "your" and "you're" correctly we'd be in good shape!

Sith Lords like Darth don't need to worry about no stinking spelling. Darth uses his force power of persuasion to make Leon do the editing. http://www.geocities.com/sbp7777/wink.x

In general the tv domain domain extension reminds me of those lame multimedia shows allgames used to do. :puke:
The only good video review was Apex's when he raved about that cool Annihilator Pro box.

More about the .tv domain (http://www.register.com/faq/tv.cgi?1|2355195024|)

I can use them correctly. I choose not to. I'm protesting apostrophes.

I just love how this thread turned into a get LP thread...I'm not the one that spells Their Thier *cough crazyace cough* or feel that since I'm a sith lord, I can say sence *cough Darth cough*.

Hrumph.

alright, that's enough.

Giovani, I would recommend that you use Word or something to write your text in, then spell and grammer check it, then c & p it into your html editor. Much of it is likely typos - and people really are snotty about correcting typos, just so they can show they knew how to suck up to the english teacher in 6th grade.

giovani. Your site looks okay. Here's some advice. Don't try to do everything yourself. You'll quickly find yourself with no life with the website consuming all your time.

Ok - here's some (I hope) constructive criticism. The site overall has a decent look and feel to it, just fine for a first-gen website. I do think that the area at the top is too large for the banner ad it holds. The "news" pages are inconsistent. For example, I can click on "Maxtor corp and Quantum HDD merge!" on the first page and get taken to the news article. The News links on this page include "Maxtor corp and Quantum HDD merge!" and that link does not work - which is fine, cuz I'm already looking at that article. Now, if I follow the "OnStream files for chapter 7 bankrupcy." news link and look at the hyperlinks on that page, the "OnStream files for chapter 7 bankrupcy." hyperlink is active. This is the inconsistentcy. Granted this is a very small thing, and I only bring it up because it seems like you might be doing more work than you need to. Oh, and the "DSL prices on the rise" link takes me to the news page, but there's no article on DSL prices. Instead of creating your own page for every news article, you may want to follow the leads of other successful tech sites and just provide a snippet of the article, then a hyperlink to the real thing. Much less work that way.

To address the typo thing. Typos are generally no big deal, except when they appear in brand names. I noticed you had added an N to Guillemot and an E to Plextor in a couple places.

I definitely agree with sbp here - don't try to do everything yourself. A good website can take vast amounts of time to maintain. Set up some templates, lay down some ground rules, and get some friends to help out.

Those'r some specifics, and I'll give you more if you'd like. I appreciate a good tech site, as do most other G|A readers, and I'm sure most of us wouldn't mind providing some suggestions.

Best of luck to you.

oh phooey.. "Look at me, I'm Mr. Rationality" hrmph :)

In light of the recent change of pace here, I'll provide some feedback as well. What O says is right about the top - it's massive. In fact, you'll want to cut it down horizontally as well. <td width="1002" height="49"> is a big no-no if you want wide-spread readership (hehe, no pun intended).

Further, your code has a startling resemblence to Sharky Extreme's. From the meta tags, to the styles to the javascript (which apparently ain't doing a damn thing), this all looks ripped. There are sections commented out that contain links to SE's website. Are you just copying and pasting SE's content? Do they know this?

As a designer/developer, I'll agree that the code I put out on the web is open for use. However, stealing content's not something I condone, especially if you're not linking back to the provider. If you're ripping scripts or design, do it well.

Netscape Navigator 4 dislikes your page quite a bit. Upon opening it, I'm prompted for a username and password (which is probably the result of one of those Javascripts stuck in there. Beneath the massive blue top table, your style sheet is showing.

Speaking of Sharkyextreme:

Alex "Sharky" Ross was forced to quit sharkyextreme. Yeah he put a good spin on it but thats what happened. (http://www.sharkyextreme.com/hardware/private_eye/9)Plus most of the rest of the staff got the ax also.

Sharkyextreme is being merged with hardwarecentral. One of the main hardwarecentral guys {Sander Sassen} was laid off about 2 months ago. (http://discussions.hardwarecentral.com/Forum12/HTML/000441.html) Hardwarecentral reviews are okay. SE reviews were pretty good.

Internet.com owns both those sites and made this announcement of layoffs today.
Internet.com Cuts 15 Percent From Payroll (http://americanexpress.yellowbrix.com/pages/americanexpress/Story.nsp?story_id=19470147&ID=americanexpress)

Its got that Pseudo.com smell all over it. :thumbdown

Losing HWC forums would not be much of a loss.

The word loyalty is not in internet.com's dictionary. They did a hatchet job on sharkyextreme and hardwarecentral. Sharkyextreme used to be a good place to get reviews from now its barely worth going there. Basically staff members were replaced with part timers and article quality has declined {that is when articles actually come out}. The corporate masters at internet.com had the offtopic forums at both sharkyforums and hardware central deleted which annoyed members and caused many to leave.

2 weeks ago, Internet.com has finished its job of gutting sysopt.com. Sysopt.com is one of the granddaddies of tech sites. Since internet.com took over sysopt.com in January 2001 most of the sysopt staff had been laid off. Yet they voluntarily continued to work on the site out of love for that site and loyalty to its founder. Scott Wainner, the Editor-in-Chief, and founder of SysOpt.com and ResellerRatings.com was recently given his walking papers as well. So the whole sysopt staff has left sysopt and founded a new site http://www.techimo.com/about.html

What a kick in the pants to have the whole staff disassociating from sysopt. Now internet.com have to find some suckers to run it.

What is the purpose of buying good sites and just letting them fall into disrepair and oblivion? Maybe internet.com is trying to save money by gutting these websites. But when the content quality goes down and doesn't come as often, the audience moves away to other sites.

Oh well, sites go down and new ones arise. One sites lost is another sites gain.

We really need a site like Resellerratings around. Scott Wainner was the only one who was taking care of it. Bad thing is he can't get the old info since internet.com owns it. But he'll be setting up a new resellerratings type site.

How about a Tech Site Ratings?

Have a whole site dedicated to rating the Hardware Review sites around the web. It's something that I'll have to look into, nothing like a Vote for your favorite site type thing though but something genuine.
