DOS programs in win 2000

Theres a few video utilities that i've downloaded that are DOS programs, but don't seem to work. Is it the fact that I'm using win 2000? The programs open, but close right away. I had to do a screenshot to see what it said, and nothing about errors was noted (it displayed the program text & closed almost immediately)

I really need to use these programs, and there is none other that i know of can do what i need (i've looked extensively)

does anyone know what the problem is? is it win 2000? (i heard it worked fine under other OS's)

win9x actually runs on DOS. Windows 2000 does not, so it doesn't run most DOS programs because of the way the OS works. If you want to run a DOS program, instead of double clicking on it, run the "Command Prompt" (Start button -> Run -> enter "command") then run the program through there.
