Cross-brand engine swaps in WA state

I have an old Toyota 4x4 with a worn out engine and tranny. I've done the math and I can put in a Ford 5.0 and auto tranny for only slightly more money than rebuilding the 4cyl/4-speed and get way more power in the bargain. I know the laws about doing this in California, but I've heard that WA state simply does not allow cross-brand engine swaps. Has anyone in WA state had any experience with this?
