I'm serious here. I need some cash. Does anyone know where I could work as a bagboy or a gopher? As long as I don't have to scrub toilets, I'm cool with whatever is thrown at me.

never got detention :D
im not super tall or super short
yeah i think that resume will do. later

grocery stores are always good
nad another place if got a drivers license is a local law firm or accountant
they pay good for gofers.
youll be running stuff across town, getting lunches, just basically running non-stop errands
full serv gas stations are also a good place
and deliever pizza if you got a car
those are my suggestions

I worked for the USDA when I was 16. It was fun except for the commute - my friend Greg and I did three hours of work in each 8-hour day and still got far more accomplished than almost anybody else in our division, it being the federal govt and all.
Law firms are good, too, although filing and faxing does get BORING.

all the same....don't a lot of places prefer drivers over 18?

Fast food if you don't mind flipping burgers or putting on a paper hat. Even at minimum wage you can still earn a lot of extra cash if you work enough.
What is minimum wage nowadays anyways?
with fast food, there is a good chance he would have to scrub toilets. which is not the end of the world...so if he is picky, i wonder what's up

Thats true Mojo. I seem to remember at Mickey D's that they have a few categories of workers, which they hire seperately. When I worked there like 10 years ago it was grill, cashier, sanitation. IT was a long time ago but if you were hired into grill back then, you stayed grill and never did the other job. I guess so you wouldn't get shit from your hands onto the burgers. Literally. :)
Like I said, long time ago, but perhaps still a possibility. Flipping burgers isn't that bad either.

why don't you try compusa? my brother started working there when he was 16, and now, three years later, he still works there. but, he makes like $15/ hr. (that bastard!;) )
i think he did upgrades when he first started, not regular sales, so it wasn't so bad.

if you're heading toward the food industry, avoid fast food and go for the local restaurants. they'll pay you more, you'll learn to actually cook and when you make nice with the boss, you get comped some nice stuff :)
I'd look into grocery stores and such. Those lower positions usually have a high turnover rate which means there are frequent openings. I also worked at Dominos Pizza as a driver when I was 18-19 and made some serious bankage, and minimum wage was much lower then.

How badly do you need cash? And how much time do you have?
If you're looking for a summer job that pays out of this world and is totally poo-ey, check out your local fish-packers. Pretty serious hours and money, but you smell like...well, you smell like fish. I'm sure many of you are, as I speak, inserting all manner of disgusting similes in that last sentence.

Work for an evil empire. They pay great, but you have to deal with the whole conscious thing. If you don't have one, like me, then you have a great job.
I hear the mafia is also good.
i was about to say that, myself. in fact, next time i am outta town, i need some "work" done that may find me to be a prime suspect ;) . if i am outta town, it wasn't me <wink, wink..nudge, nudge> ;)

passwird, I strongly suggest you stay away from jobs with food. It tends to be greasy, and at your age you have to worry about acne.
Stylee had a good suggestion (CompUSA), and I would alos suggest checkign out your local RadioShacks (they start at like $10 an hour I believe)

Department stores. Maybe sales, but probably as a stock person. Pays decent, and great discounts on clothes.
Or sell drugs????

Paper routes do pay a LOT, but you gotta get up early :-(
If you want some temporary, off/on work you decide your own schedule for then consider putting an ad in the paper advertising that you'll do yardwork, lawnmowing, pet sitting, kid sitting, dog walking, etc. You can set your own rates and decide when you wanna take on the jobs.

Well, you're about 30 miles away from me in Berkeley, but if you really want a well-paying job, and aren't too troubled by scruples (i.e. don't mind illegal activity), I'll set you up working for a rave promoter. :D You'll probably make what works out to about $15-25 an hour, you don't have to do that much - mainly driving around to drop off tickets, scout locations, etc.
But I'm not really serious. Go get a normal job.
dude! apply at a coffee place! that is kinda classy in and of itself

So why don't you get a job at Best Buy? That would be a dream come true for me. I'd be poor as hell all the time because I'd be blowin away my paychecks...Umm, never mind. That's a bad job to have.

BEA Systems in SF. Cool place, right in the middle of the financial district. They're secure enough in their market position that this economic downturn hasn't really hurt them. Think they just filled the last available position today, though. Sorry!

Do you have an Alliance Data Systems where you live? The ones here hire high school age, pay about $8-$10 per hour, and you work in a cubicle (or at least at your own desk). The jobs range from telemarketing to opening accounts and entering data. All the kids at my high school got jobs there.

Alright, I've tried and failed so far. I tried applying at Barnes and Noble; no call back. Oreck Vacuums (:D); no call back. Inside this envelope is an application to be an office assistant at the San Carlos City Hall. It's $10.50/hour so I hope I get it. Wish me luck, damnit! :)

You will have to forgive my geography of California, but if there is a base near you, you can apply at the stores on base that start above min wage. Also they have summer jobs for kids making $10+ an hour.

Yeah, sorry. It is common for me to say "on base" and have people around me know what I am talking about. Forgot about you civies out there :)
If you see a military uniform, there most likely is an Aafes on base (kinda like a Walmart).
