View Full Version : Intel® PRO/100+ Management Adapter w/WOL $17.50 shipped.
04-03-2001, 05:18 AM
Okay guys....mounting bills (and a wonderful girlfriend) are prodding me to move these network cards. I picked these up at an auction and was going to sell these for a hefty profit, but other things have gotten to my time first.
Anyways, here it is: Intel® PRO/100+ Management Adapter w/WOL. $17.50 shipped anywhere in North America (USPS w/delivery confirmation).
This is less than 1/2 of the lowest shipped price on pricewatch (search on pila 8460).
Every adapter comes with a free Wake-On-Lan Cable (WOL)! Buy 10 adapters, get a free 3.5" floppy drive! Buy more and I maybe I can throw something else in (a little lower price or even an 8 port 10/100 hub).
Let me know what you want and maybe I even have it. My stuff has to go.
Please read http://home.adelphia.net/~ivanlau/ethernet.htm
Thanks for your time and help. The members of Got|Apex have been real good to me since I got here.
[Edited by Mighty Man on 04-03-2001 at 02:23 AM]
These ethernet cards are awesome. It's the only ones that Apex and I use. Good driver support and natively supported by Windows. I have never had any problems installing these. I get friends asking me why their network isn't working. It's because they went out and bought the cheapest NICs they could find.

Interested in a couple of the NICs, do you have refs, Heatware or some other ??
LMK, thanks osage

I picked a couple of these cards directly from Intel a little over a year ago at 2 for $40. I thought I had a good deal then, as the cards were selling locally for $70 each, at that price ($17.50) its an incredible deal. Anyone who needs a card should grab one!
04-05-2001, 03:59 AM
Fine, fine, fine pieces of hardware. You will enjoy it if you buy one (or 10).
04-05-2001, 07:21 AM
Nwara: No problem, will do.
Osage: Sure. You can check me out on ebay as [email protected]
Also have done purchases from a few Got|Apex members (Bladderman, ETLA, jase71, colossus, gepapa, and a few others). If you're really interested, I can e-mail an old trade list from when I was doing sports cards and magic cards from 91-97 (about 650 trades). I'm pleased to say that I've never had anyone be dissatisfied with one of my sales or my shipping. I take pride especially in the shipping part, as I *HATE* getting damaged goods in the mail.
ufcrusher/brewmaster: They still retail for $70! And like I said, $17.50 shipped is less than 1/2 of pricewatch's cheapest. It's a very good and inexpensive piece of equipment. It's been endorsed by Ars Technica, DSLserver.com, and even Leon (whoa!).
Update: I've got about 350 of these for sale. FOR ANYONE THAT'S A GOT|APEX MEMBER, I'M LOWERING THE PRICE TO $16.50/EA (Still shipped!) IF YOU BUY 2 OR MORE! If you know anyone that needs a NIC, please let them know about this. If they're not a member, they get it for $17.50 . If they're a member and buy 2+, they get them for $16.50 each. And it costs them nothing to sign up. I'm not getting anything from Got|Apex for this, but the members here have been good to me (for advice and deals!), and I'm going to return the favor. Oh yeah, and did I mention I've got bills to pay? =8-)
Thanks again for the support everyone!
04-05-2001, 08:35 AM
OK, I'm in for two of the NICs at $16.50 ea shipped.
e-mail me with your PayPal addy, last name and I'll get the $33.00 out to you.
my Heatware = osage

Well, damn, I was all set to cheerlead for MMan, but y'all beat me to the punch. There was a time when I'd be buying/selling/trading hardware with him every two weeks, and none of it was ever DOA, and most of is was quality shite, and damn cheap.
He really does have a metric shitload of the cards - I got suckered into helping carry them. (and, yes, I got a "forced labor" discount - which is why I run one of these in my box, the one for my GF, and the one I'm putting together for my parents. . . I don't want people coming to me when stuff breaks, so I use shit that won't. ;-)
04-06-2001, 09:13 AM
Please e-mail me your address and I will send you a MO for 2 of them.
04-06-2001, 10:43 AM
Brandonmw: You've got mail!
Everyone else: Keep 'em coming! Got tons more! And thanks to everyone that's already bought some.
04-06-2001, 01:15 PM
man, I don't NEED anymore network cards, yet still I'm tempted....thinking...thinking....
04-06-2001, 02:07 PM
I have 8 cards, but none are as nice as these...
04-06-2001, 04:05 PM
Hmm, paypal awaits your address :)
I might also be able to find a good wealth of people that are interested. YGM
04-06-2001, 04:23 PM
I am using the card that came installed with my computer:
Realtek RTL8139(A) PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter. I don't know very much about NICs so could anyone tell me if the one MMan is selling is better ... should I upgrade?
04-06-2001, 04:43 PM
Definitely want one. I already had two, one is gone cause I owed someone money and they took it, I want this card, cause it's definitely better.
Mighty Man, how do I contact you? Mail me at [email protected]
04-06-2001, 05:31 PM
Hey everyone, thanks for all the orders! I've sold about 20 of them, so keep the orders coming!!!
Just FYI, this sale was posted by someone else to Anandtech.com's forums. I want to make sure that everyone that's a Got|Apex member gets their discount, so if you're ordering them, please remind me that you're a Got|Apex member (username would be just fine). I've been getting lots of e-mails from people and I don't know if they're from Got|Apex Members or from somewhere else (especially when the e-mail addresses don't match up).
You guys are all the best!
Put me down for two!! These are MUCH better than my Linksys and even my 3Com which has been giving me problems with my KT133A chipset. arghh..
Please email me- i just shot a mail off to you--
04-06-2001, 07:56 PM
that's funny, I had problems with a 3com on a KT133a too.
Please send me your address. I'm interested in at least 3. Thanks
04-06-2001, 09:51 PM
Okay, Mighty Man, I want one or three...but...are these OEM? Are they RETAIL? Are they BULK PACK? Who fulfulls the warranty? If I call INTEL for support, will they say "SORRY, THIS IS AN OEM PRODUCT AND WE DO NOT FULFILL THE WARRANTY!" ??? I have purchased a TON of stuff on the 'net in the last few years, this one being to exception, and I have learned that the WARRANTY issue almost always bites you if it's a good price. I almost clicked on by, but I thought I would give you a chance. Please let me know asap. ([email protected]
One last thing...these aren't the security management adapters like I have, are they? Are they just the Pro/100+, the Pro/100...or are they the Pro/100s (security management adapter)? Let me know. Thanks!
Oh, they are OEM HP parts...can you verify the warranty info? (thanks) If they have a full manufacturer's warranty through HP, I will buy. But if it is only a replacement if DOA, or no warranty, I will respectfully decline. Thanks!

04-06-2001, 10:22 PM
though not a BIG issue, i'm interested in the warranty coverage as well. nevertheless, i think i'll still pick up one or two
04-06-2001, 10:56 PM
If you have 2 I'll take them
04-06-2001, 11:28 PM
These adapters came to me in bulk pack (OEM) boxes, 10 adapter cards to a box. These do not come in retail packaging.
These are the Pro/100+ Management Adapters, but not the security ones (which is the Pila 8460 C3 and is listed as the Pro/100 S).
As for warranty, I'm honestly not sure: the units themselves are Intel chipset based, but are HP labelled units (they have a HP part number on them). I would imagine that warranty and tech support would be through HP rather than Intel. I list them as Intel adapters, because that's how they are auto-identified under plug-n-pray.
If there's any other questions, please e-mail me at [email protected]
04-07-2001, 01:46 AM
hey mighty man, i'll take 3 nic's.
please e-mail me at [email protected]
04-07-2001, 11:17 AM

04-08-2001, 06:48 PM
I've sold about 50 NICs already, but I've still got lots more to go! Please keep the orders coming, and thanks again to all those who ordered from me already.
04-08-2001, 07:52 PM
I'll get 2. Gimme a few more days.
I just finished transfering from Paypal to bank (thought I didn't need Paypal for awhile, UNTIL I SAW YOUR DEAL!)Bank to Paypal should finish Wednesday or Thursday. I order then.
Gimme me 2 of em. How do you want me to pay you?
04-09-2001, 01:13 PM

for the address.
04-09-2001, 09:47 PM
Hello, I got the NICs today. You weren't kidding about be well packed. The mail truck could have drove over them and not done any damage.
Anyway I have 1 of them in my spare box and it works just fine. Just like the other Intel Pro100+ I have in my box that I paid a lot more for.
Good stuff--good price--great service, what more can you ask for.
04-10-2001, 03:56 AM
I got the cards today, ordered them saturday. Great shipping and price. If you need feed back I need your heatware ID.
04-10-2001, 05:05 PM
I placed an order for 10 NICs at the end of last week (Thursday or Friday, can't remember which) and I used PayPal to pay for the order.
Lo and behold, Monday afternoon, an extrememly well taped box is sitting on my steps. Inside I find a sea of packing popcorn surrounding another cardboard box. Inside that, I find the 10 NICs I ordered, each in static bags, protected by soft foam and taped securely. Also securely padded and taped was the bonus 3.5" floppy promised for orders of 10. And yup, the Wake-On-LAN cables too.
Thanks Mighty Man!
04-11-2001, 10:14 AM
I'm glad that everyone seems to be happy with their transactions....and the packing job! =8-)
It takes a few more minutes to do it right, but I think it's worth it, and I'm sure you all will agree.
Heatware evals would be appreciated from anyone that's happy with the way things went.(http://heatware.elitehardware.com and the username is Mighty Man (nicely enough!))
also, in case anyone is wondering, I still have *lots* of these left. If you can't use 'em, but you know someone that can, i'd appreciate the referral.
04-11-2001, 05:21 PM
Hey Mighty Man
I'd like two cards. They work great.
I sent an email off to you.
04-12-2001, 12:55 AM

i'm just waiting to get some money back from somebody :(

04-17-2001, 04:57 PM
Got mine today for $33 shipped. Great packing as others have said. Dump for a great deal.
04-17-2001, 08:41 PM
got mine late last week. packed nice and tightly with anti-static bags and foam padding. can't wait to test them out on the new systems i plan on building!
04-17-2001, 10:41 PM
Got mine today. Windows instantly recognized it. Performs like a pro. Why anyone would buy a different NIC elsewhere is beyond me...
04-18-2001, 02:04 AM
Wow, over 1000 page views, and 130 cards sold! I'm 1/3 done!
Seriously, I'm glad that everyone has been pleased with the transactions and the merchandise. Everyone I've dealt with has been real cool and no problems have cropped up at all. I've gotten lots of positive comments regarding the shipping: yes, I try to do a real good job with the packing. It only takes me a few extra minutes, and I'd hate to receive damaged goods just as much as the next guy. The foam padding doesn't cost me anything (came with the cards, just cut up), and neither do the boxes or labels (thank you USPS!). The only thing I'm really paying for is the tape and zip-loc bags. Oh yeah, and the styrofoam peanuts (can you believe, I had to *BUY* peanuts? I went through 4 years worth of accumulated peanuts in the first 130 cards! I had to *PAY $30* to buy peanuts -- 14 cu. ft.!)
A few questions were raised by some customers, and rather than trying to address them individually, please see http://home.adelphia.net/~ivanlau/ethernet.htm which has been updated as of yesterday morning. It should help answer some questions that have already been asked before.
Nwara: Don't forget to add the NIC to your .sig listing! =8-)
Thanks for everything guys, and keep the sales coming!
BTW, if someone needs pictures (of the boxes, or cards), e-mail me at [email protected]
04-18-2001, 10:28 PM

04-25-2001, 06:10 PM
Hola, My first time posting on the forum. Just wanted to add my $0.02 worth.
I got two NICs a while ago and I am enjoying using one in my home pc. I do notice an improvement over my old 3com ISA NIC (Hey, the 3com was free. The packaging was excellent, not even the dopey postman can accidentally crush its contents.
I hope there may be some future goodies being sold by Mighty Man. Well done.
04-28-2001, 01:21 PM
Hey Mighty Man, Got the NIC's. :)
I really appreciate you making these available. All in all I can't remember ever getting a better deal. Thanks a million.
If anybody else needs a NIC or two I highly recommend you contact Mighty Man before they're all gone. First class NIC, First class packing, First class service, First class Dude.
Thanks again. :)

I'm a network newbie and I have this question. I just received the DSL modem from my isp. The connector it came with looks like a phone cord connector. When I looked at the nic, I don't see the same type of connection. What do I need to connect this modem to the nic?
05-01-2001, 01:41 AM
There should be 2 ports on the DSL modem. One should come from your phone jack (through a filter most likely) and enter the DSL modem. Another port should look like the port on your NIC from which you should run CAT-5 (ethernet) cable.
05-01-2001, 03:22 AM
Ah, it was my mistake. I was looking at the nic through the antistatic bag and I only gave the dsl modem a cursory look.. Initially, I thought the connectors were totally different. Upon closer inspection, they do indeed have the same type of connectors. Silly me... :P
05-01-2001, 07:13 AM
Never having had any experience with DSL:
Does the incoming line terminate in RJ-45 (ethernet), or in RJ-11 (phone)? Or is it the type of situation where the modem unit serves as a media changer (like a cable modem: coax in, RJ-45 out to NIC)?
Guys: I want to thank everyone for all the help. Over 50 posts and over 1300 views in this thread alone. I can't believe this has been running for almost a full month!
I've still got quite a few network cards left if anyone is still interested.
It goes like this:
The DSL company does some wiring and you now have the wall jack (RJ-11) that is DSL ready. You plug from the wall to the DSL modem input which is also in RJ-11. The output from the DSL modem is in RJ-45 format which will plug into your NIC, router, or hub.
05-01-2001, 08:23 AM
Unless, of course, it's a USB modem. :D
btw : The intel NIC is the best I've ever worked with. The drivers are built in to Windows and all you have to do to get up and running is install it and boot your computer. Everything is automatic from then on. I especially like the fact that cpu usage is lower than most.
3com is good too but costs about 4 times as much as the Intel.
05-10-2001, 12:23 AM
To anyone that's tried to contact me over the previous 4 days: My ISP informed me that they've been having problems with the mail server and some people have been receiving error messages when trying to mail me.
If you're one of these people and are still interested, please re-e-mail (is there such a word?) me at [email protected]
Apparently the mail service is operational right now, but I've lost the last few days worth.
I still have about 150 cards left. Please keep the orders coming!!!!
05-10-2001, 05:48 AM
Those of you WITHOUT those NICs are missing out...High quality stuff and shipped quick too!
With this deal around, there's NO reason whatsover to keep your el cheapo Realtek8139's and NE2000's anymore.
05-14-2001, 03:39 AM

05-14-2001, 03:26 PM

Wow, 60 replies and over 1450 views! I never would have dreamed that the thread would be going this long or this well.
Just a quick update for everyone: I'm down to my last 90 cards! The sale is still going on, and I hope to sell these out within the next month or so (preferably sooner!). So for anyone that still needs one and has been holding back, check the rest of the thread, and you'll find that now is the time: right product, right price! $17.50 each shipped, or $16.50 each shipped if you buy 2+ cards (got|apex members only! please remember to send your id!)
I want to thank each and every member that bought some from me. I'm happy to say that in the 120+ orders and almost 300 cards sold that I haven't had anyone be dissatisfied with their transactions.
