I'm trying to build my first system and was looking at cases. Mainly at ATX. I will be using a Asus A7V along with a Duron 750. Was wondering what you guys though of the Antec Performance Series cases? Their kinda of pricey so I was looking a generic how do these compare. Also since I plan on overclocking the Duron I want to be sure to keep it cool, could I drill holes in the side of a cheap generic case to increase air flow? I saw that the Antec has four ?exhast? fans. So instead of extra fans I think the holes will work. If not what cheap cases do you guys recommend?
thanks Cyric
I have the Antec Performance Series SX1030. It's an EXCELLENT case. For cooling performance, for the price, there's nothing like it. If you want to go up in price, there are some other options, but nothing at that price level.

This is a great case and offers a lot of cooling. Check out a review here. (http://www.icrontic.com/?action=hardware&id=5)

Yes, buy a generic case with a good psu and damnit, cut holes! I bought a full tower and a 120mm hole saw and cut one in the side of the case over the psu and another in the top for a blow-hole. I put a Radio Shack AC powered 120mm fan (65 cfm and QUIET!) in each, then an 80mm in the front-bottom, and two more in the back over the power supply. Just make the lower ones intake, and the upper ones exhaust. Neatly bundle all of your wires and, if possible, either get round ide cables or tie the ones you have out of the way of the airflow. I spent $52 on the case (300 watt psu, 6 external 5.25", 2 external 3.5" and 4 internal 3.5") and about $52 on fans and am very satisfied with it. Not to mention I did it myself which adds to the satisfaction too... Woops! Did I forget to mention another $30 on a hole saw? Yep, guess I did! It's not too hard to do, you just have to decide if it's right for you. If not, blow your money on the pre-made one, it is after all your money...

You can't lose with an Antec case. Not to mention that adding fans and stuff is pretty fun (at least I think it's fun to sup it up).

but...but....it's UGLY. I mean, ugly.
That case probably is a great case but damn if that thing ain't FUGLY. I don't think even a coat of paint could make that case any better looking. I am more partial to looks than anything, I know I am vain but hey an Enlight 7237 takes to mods great and a coat of paint makes it somewhat of a center peice.

I have an SX840, and I don't think it's ugly OR fugly.
It's an awesome case by the way, but unfortunately, it's mobo tray doesn't come out but there's still plenty of room.

Looks a little bit cooler in black, I've also seen it in sort of a purplish-blue color. Yea, but that case before it was BUTT FUGLY! I would recommend a generic case with an AMD recommended PSU. You can check them out at ubid.com. That's where I got mine. I payed 29 bucks for it plus shipping, came to about $50.

I have the case that Alienware uses (Hydraulic) in black and really like it a lot. Bottomline, do what ovrrdrive said, cut holes and add fans...fun, fun!!!

I love my SX1030. Yea it isn't the prettiest case in the world, but neither are the computer geeks that are using them. I bought the 1030 for its size. Plenty of bays inside and out w/o being as large as a full tower. I have two intake fans in the front, two exhaust in the rear, another one on the 300-watt power supply. And one fan each on the two cpus. It is rather heavy, but stout. I love the removable side panel :) for the price I don't think you can beat it. I paid $95 plus $5 shipping from mychaseshop.com of all places. Cheapest shipping I found at the time for such a heavy case. If you need something smaller look at the SX-840 its smaller brother.
