Hey does anyone know where there's I can find a good selection of fans for upgrading a fan on a CPU Cooler (Socket A)?

Thanx

http://www.2cooltek.com is a nice place. Good prices. I would start by looking there. You can also pick up lots of accessories - hardware, thermal compound, rounded cables, etc. And they have good responses on reseller ratings. It's a good, honest place to do business with.

Thanx you two. Now, I know where to get a Thermaltake Thermoengine. I've also heard that the Alpha PAL6035 is good. A couple of things...
First, I'm looking for the fan "Patst TYP 612 NGHH."
Second, I've seen many many reviews out there. What I would like now are some personal opinions on what you are currently using and what you think is a good cooler for an AMD 1.33 processor (out of experience).

Thanx

T-birds do run hot, and even if you are not planning on overclocking that 1.33, you are still going to want to make sure that you keep it cool. STAY AWAY FROM THERMALTAKES. They just can't keep T-birds cool enough. You are pretty safe if you go with either an Alpha or a Globalwin. For the Globalwins, the Fop 38 is a good choice, but is a noisy little cuss. As far as the Alphas, the PAL 6035 is a popular choice. This bad boy moves 38 cfm, but at a price. I have never heard one running on a system, but I have heard from many folks that the thing is damn loud.

But in the end, what would you prefer? A loud system or a melted one?

Like chosenfool said, the Peltiers or a water cooled system are the best (short of keeping the system in the fridge), but you will have to shell out lots of scratch for either of those options.

The Alpha is a very good cooler and not too expensive an option for your needs.

Don't forget the Arctic Silver II (use it sparingly), and the rounded cables, and that T-bird should stay nice and cool.

BTW, I am using an Globalwin Fop 32-1 on my T-bird 900 (not overclocked).

I think I might have overdone my system a bit in the cooling department...

I'm running a T-Bird 1.1Ghz at 1320Mhz. I have a Globalwin FOP38 sitting on the chip. My case has 2 120mm Sunon intake fans blowing on the CPU and PCI cards. It also has a 120mm Sunon exhaust fan on top. My Enermax 350w PSU has 2 fans in it. Add the fan on my GeForce2 Ultra and you get a total of 7 fans running in my computer. Talk about loud. I do feel like I'm riding in an Airbus at about 30,000 feet whenever I have my computer turned on.

The good thing about this, though, is my system hasn't even broken the 45c barrier yet. :) Doesn't matter what I do, it sits nice and comfy at about 42-44c. :)

I'm actually thinking about swapping the FOP38 for an FOP32 to get the noise down a bit...

If I pop the FOP38 off, what should I use to clean the CPU core before I pop a new HSF on it?

Moo

If you mean the thermoengine, that would make you the only person in the known world that doesn't like them

http://www.azzo.com sells the thermoengine...mated to a delta fan, it's incredible, and a lot cheaper than the alpha for the same performance...with the stock fan, its good enough to keep it cool, but not for overclocking. The thermoengine has one of the better clipping thingys by far.

Nope, I was referring to Thermaltake's Orb series (which chosenfool referred to in an earlier post), which I understand are famous for allowing T-Birds to melt underneath them. The only Thermaltake model that is on AMD's approved list is the Volcano II.

ah..I get hte names all screwed up.

I agree, I wouldn't use an orb on a Tbird.

Where exactly on the CPU are you supposed to put the thermal paste (Arctic Silver)? And those rounded cables, do they really make a difference?

You use the Arctic Silver on the core only, that part right in the middle of the CPU. You want to use it sparingly; if you use too much, you can actually nullify the positive aspects of using it.

Here's Arctic Silver's Instruction Guide for applying their stuff:

http://www.arcticsilver.com/arctic_silver_instructions.htm

That will tell you all you need to know about putting that goop on.

As far as the rounded cables go, they certainly have less surface area, which means there is less to get in the way of airflow within your case. You just have to decide if it is worth it to splash the cash for them. In my opinion, they are worth it, especially if your case is a Mid or a Mini and there is not that much space in there to begin with.

They have great and informed people working there and they know what they are talking about. Maybe a little high on price but you get what you pay for right?? customer service is always a major thing with me cuz if something were to happen i would want to have someone help me if things didnt go right.
I use to shop at atacom.com and they had cheap prices but sorry ass customer service. and they wouldnt take back something i bought from them that was bad and i got the run around.

well, I picked up a delta fan from millisec.com - got it in two days, no hassle. Great site.

Dropped the temp on my thermoengine 10 degrees! Loud sucker, wife thought something was wrong, but I'm already getting used to it...in fact it's deathly quiet when I turn off the PC.

dood I agree atacom.com does suck!!!!!!
The people at http://www.sotacomputers.com are (whats the word)with it (informed). Some of these places have people that are as dumb as a box of rocks, and will try to get your money any way they can. I DONT DEAL WITH PEOPLE LIKE THAT! Sota Computers dealt with me in a way a company has never done before they gave me tech support on a product I bought from them! They didnt have to do that but they did! I bought a motherboard, chip, and fan from them and this is what happened. When I got my abit kt7a and the athlon 1.2Gig 266 chip and my global win fan I tried and put everything together myself, but what happened is that I cracked my athlon chip at the core cuz I tried and put the fan on to hard! So I called them up to see what I could do cuz I thought I had to eat the chip. Amazingly they told me to send back the chip at my cost though and they would replace it even though it was my fault, now thats what I call customer service. People like that will always have my business. I only shop there cuz they have hardware before anyone else does. New Motherboards that come out they have before anyone else!, and a great selection in video cards to if you ask me. Ive been to a lot of sites and noone offers a selection like these guys do. Anyway enough said shop where you feel you get the best treatment I always say! Later Gater!
