Kenshin's post on when's a good time to build a computer got me thinking. These are the hardrives I purchased in the last couple years, kinda depressing...
3.5 years ago: 11.9 GIG Maxtor 5400 RPM about $250
= $21.01 / GIG
1.5 years ago: 27.2 GIG Maxtor 5400 RPM about $220
= $8.09 / GIG
Yesterday: 40.9 GIG Western Digital 7200RPM $135
= $3.30 / GIG
BTW: These were all pretty good deals at the time..lol

Well technically if you think about... you gotta compare apples to apples. An ATA33 drive from 5 years ago is not the same thing as an ATA100 drive today. The technology is so much better today. ATA100 today is far superior to the SCSI drives from years past. The advantages between the two technologies is so minimal today whereas before they were like night and day. watcha think

Cyric, if you live in San Diego.. Microtron2000 in clairmont mesa, has a maxtor 40gig for $135 and WD 40gig for $139. When I went, I asked for the maxtor but they ran out so they gave me the WD for the same price.
I used to be a maxtor only person, but this WD drive seems to be a lot quieter and faster (old ones were only 5400rpm)

a 5400rpm WD ATA66 45gig, very quite and does great... I perhaps will buy Deskstars next time but 45 is plenty, except for my divx addiction.
