...and hence what I'll be drinknig come tomorrow night, is 'Stout of Circumstance,' found only at the Magnolia brew pub on the corner of Haight & Masonic in San Francisco. This is the beer that Guiness Stout goes to bed crying about, because it knows it will never compare. In fact, anyone who considers Guinness to be anything more than half Budweiser and half cold, stale decaf coffee just doesn't know squat about real beer! Hah! Guinness, the 'Budweiser' of stouts!! Go to Magnilia and get a real beer!!!

damn you all....I have a NEGATIVE alcohol tolerance. So after one bottle of hard lemonade (in 10 minutes), I get sick. I skip all the good effects of alcohol (if any) and go straight to the hangover...pretty cool huh?

Grrrrrrrr

Grrrrrrrr

that generally means you drink too slowly. and i'm actually not kidding.

or you could have an allergy - it's usually an allergy to hops in beer, but since hard lemonade has no hops, i guess it could be the malt or the yeast (hard lemonades are malt beverages, aren't they?)

try some gin. or wine. or robitussin and percoset...

Not to double post, but damn that's a good beer.

And shall anyone be in Minnesota anytime, might I suggest a James Page brew... an excellent ale similar to Summit.

No need for all the rest just go for the Bicardi 151.

However I'll never again drink Captain Morgan Spice rum. THat's some nasty stuff. I would like to slay that Captain. Grrrrrrrrrr

Arrrr... if I had a hook I'd hook ya, lol. Ugh, 151 reminds me of my 21st b-day. Not sure I'm allowed to even come within smelling proximity of that crap for another 21 years... ugh.

I can appreciate your evaluation, and yet I deny it. This is truly how I *passionately* feel. I'm not trying to provoke anyone; just spreading the gospel of REAL BEER!
Cheers!

Sorry to muss your sensibilities, my good man, but it's for your own good: Guiness is *bad* beer. Since you can't get Magnolia brew in Illinois, may I reccomend seeking out 'Moonlight Death & Taxes,' 'Haystack Black,' 'Lagunitas BugTown Stout,' or 'Rogue Shakespeare Stout?' They are not Stout of Circumstance, but delicious in their own way. Better yet, come visit the bay area, and I'll buy you a pint of the real stuff! Cheers!

Ah yes, Capt. Morgan's spiced rum. Not my favorite drink, but once I was *enlisted* to be a pirate at a festival, and was forced, at threat of swordplay, to guzzle a pint of the stuff in one tilt of the glass. All I can say is, "Aarh, Matey!!!"

Not quite. Guinness is usually bad beer in the States.
That's because much of the Guinness here is actually brewed in Mexico City, if I recall correctly. By the time it gets here, and purchased, it's usually in a state somewhere between roadkill and enbalming fluid.

Guinness in a pub in Ireland, preferably close to Dublin, is very good. VERY good. So good I'd still be there if I hadn't almost run out of money... <grin>

Well, so far I have seen everything from micro-brew 'snobs' (which I am one of) to RBV's. Ya know, being a seasoned alcoholic and having tried everything I must say that a Jack and Coke is still the best. Granted, Lemonade and Absolute is great as is Lemon-Ice Gatorade with Absolute. Sure micro-brews are great if you find the right ones (and if you look hard enough, there is a 'right' one for everybody) and RBV's are good especially with MiniThins but your heart might give out :(.

So, now I am faced with the dilemma, What should I drink tonight??? Reply with suggestions and I will drink whatever is the most popular choice. I will also follow up with any details. I would not mind if the choice was quite original and something that I have never tried before.

Rules: If it is something I cannot get in Michigan, well then I cannot get it... Also, no lame shooters like "Prarie Fire"s and "Gorilla Fart"s will do.

Thanks for your help in getting me wasted!

Well, it sounds like the classic dichotomy of beer snobs and kids who don't know what it is to drink like an adult. Anything involving Mountain Dew should be thrown into a gasoline can, mixed, then one should throw the gasoline/Dew mixture on the person who was going to drink said miserable concoction, and lit aflame. :)

I kid because I love. I, too, was once young and stupid. Listen up, pups, as a wizened old pickle of a liver tells you what you should be drinkin' if beer ain't your speed.

Manhatten: So you don't like martini's. Hey, they're an acquired taste. I happen to love an arid, well mixed gin martini, but that's because my tastebuds have long left me. So if you want to look somewhat suave, are looking to get fucking hammered with the boys, and need something good tasting, order up a Manhatten. And goddamn it, use some good whisky; I use bourbon, basically because I'm a revived southern man in an Asian-Canadian's body. Only problem with these ones is that they look kind of red in the semi-darkness of a bar, and could be construed to look like a Cosmo, which Sara Jessica Parker et al have properly ruined for all of us with a penis; thanks a lot, you skinny Babs look-alike. That ain't a compliment...

KGB's: So you college kids just HAVE to be doin' shots, right? Well, at least add a little style to it. Vodka: get something decent. If it's not Ketel one, at a minimum, Smirnoff. That's reasonably priced, and isn't going to taste MUCH like rubbing alcohol going down. The KGB takes a little bit of prep work, but goes great at parties, because there's sort of something else to do. Take a lemon, suger, and ground espresso. Do no, DO NOT use ground coffee or some shit like that. Cut the lemons into circles, then halve those. So you have lemon wedges that have parallel sides. Coat one side of the lemon in suger, the other in ground espresso, wack back the shot, and chomp the lemon, suger side down. Makes a really nice taste, and you'll seem just a little bit sophisticated. It's cheaper than shit, too.

Hey, I gotta go and hand with some of the boys. Hope this helps you. I'll try and think up some more good ones. Oh, remind me about the Tokyo Tea. That's for when you're determined to get just fucked up beyond all belief, and don't care about the repercussions the next day...

Yours,

Penny

dman33 - you are in michigan? i assume in ann arbor or ypsilanti, since that's where 99% of the college population is...

HOW TO DRINK WELL IN MICHIGAN

1. get an apartment on liberty street.

2. tie a string from your front door to the front door of the grizzly peak, so you don't have to see straight to walk home straight.

3. get your paycheck direct deposited into your tab at grizzly peak.

i hated moving away from ann arbor... i lived at grizzly peak... minimum three nights a week... at the last chicago real ale festival, the peak brought three or four real ales, and instead of sampling everything there, i mostly drank the peak stuff and bawled...
