I am looking to get either a new or slightly used lap top computer. It needs to have the following minimum specs:

Intel Pentium III - 700 mhz or faster
14.1" screen (active TFT, Super VGA)
Dvd rom w/ software decoder
56k modem
10 gig or larger hard drive
10/100 ethernet card
Video card
128 megs ram

As far as software, I couldnt give a damn, as I already own originals of everything I want.

I am finding similar systems new in the area of $1100 and up, but I am trying to get the best price I can.

If anyone knows of a deal, or is in the market to sell their computer, let me know.

Thanks

I don't know of a good price for you, but just some advice - don't settle on a no name laptop to get the price you want. If you're on a strict budget, you're better off sacrificing some components for a brand name system - I'd suggest Dell or IBM. You may want to consider a Dell refurb. Stay away from Sony - they're pretty, but not very good.

If you settle for a no name, you're almost guaranteed to have problems. Laptops are built to very tight specs, and it's pretty easy to get a bad design with one of the cheaper companies.

Thanks for the input. I was hoping to find someone selling a used name brand machine with those specs. I personally stay clear of non name brand computing goods, as I have seen way too many problems.

If you live in Cali, esp. in the Silicon Valley or LA area, you may want to search out some auction houses. With all the dot com failures, everyone is liquidating assets like crazy. I've seen $3k laptops going for about a grand each. Many places require you to be there on the day of the auction, or at least pick the goods up in person.
Unfortunately. I don't remember the auction sites off the top of my head - anyone else??

http://www.dovebid.com is the biggest technology online auction site, also http://www.compusa.com has some "deals" occasionally.

I was watching a Toshiba satellite 2800-S201 on ebay and the seller had some extras at $1000, contact him ([email protected])to see if that fits your needs or he may have something else.
