how far away do you live from your family?
do you see them often?
do you ever go out (shopping, bars, etc.) with your siblings?
i'm just wondering how other families are. i've been led to believe that my family is out of the ordinary, and i would like to see how they compare to others.

You can avoid family for a long time with a cheap disguise and a good answering machine. :)

Whenever there is a break from school
every once in a while
I goto college in Austin, parents live in Houston. 3 hours away. I see them about twice a month. My g/f is a senior in high school, she was a year before me, so she still lives there too. I live w/ my brother, I hate him, and uh sometimes I go out with him though, hehe.

two-hour drive from my sister, four-hour drive from my parents
i see them every other weekend
my mom is a nazi freak when it comes to shopping, i avoid it at all costs; i hang out with my sister regularly, soon to become VERY regularly since we will be living in the same town again
i have been told repeatedly that it is odd to be so close to my family, but we all have the same disfunctions so we can generally play nicely together

1200 miles from the nearest family member... :hmm:
Until this past year, I lived about 4 hrs away from part of my family and an hour from the rest, so I used to visit regularly. My bro and I are really close, and I enjoy shopping/going to lunch with my mom...

cool.
i'll explain about my family.
i'm the youngest of 6 (ahh the wonders of being irish catholic). i live an hour away from my parents, and i live the farthest away not only of my immediate family but of most of my extended family.
i see my family pretty much every weekend, unless i'm travelling. some weeks i see them even more. i talk to my mom every day (if only for 2 minutes).
we do a lot of things together. saturday night, 5 of us all went to the bar together (all but the oldest married one). we go to concerts together, we go shopping together. hell, there have been times when 4 of us have all gone to get our hair cut at the same time. and our ages are all spread out- theres a 16 year difference between my oldest sister and i.

i think my entire family is a bunch of freaks!
but first i'll answer the questions...i live about 30 minutes from my parents. i see them at least once every two weeks, and if i don't talk to my dad for lets say, 4 days, he says something stupid like 'i haven't talked to you in sooooo long.' duh.
i go out all the time with my two sisters. my younger sister lives about two miles from me, and also works in NYC, so we meet up all the time for stuff. and my older sister has no life or friends, so she's always coming over.
ok, so what i realized was that my insane family is just too involved with our lives. and it's not like it's a particularly bad thing, but... i'll give you an example. i went to my cousin's fiance's wedding shower this weekend. and my uncle, who is my dad's brother, and the father of the groom stayed for the whole thing. he was the only man there, and he was taking pictures, etc.
isn't that strange? and i know, my father would do the same thing. it's like they love us too much or something.
ranges from 10 to 30 minutes
weekly/monthly

I live about 4 hours drive from my Mom and Sister. I talk to my Mom every day by phone and go visit every couple of months and of course Thanksgiving and Christmas. She is a widow so I am militant about checking in on her. She calls me the warden. I hang out with her as much as possible. My Mom is a really great person.
I talk to my Sister a couple times a week either by phone or e-mail or both. My Sister can drive me nuts. But I still do stuff with her as much as I can. Because she is the only family I have besides my Mom so I deal with it.
Families can be a pain in the ass because they can push our buttons like no one else, after all they installed them.
