CRT/LCD projector for half-ass 'home theatre'

What the subject says :)

I want something to shoot a decent size, decent clarity shot onto a wall for DVD and Sega DC. Doesnt need computer inputs. I checked eBay, but not sure what you are getting there... I thought maybe someone has one or knows someone that is getting rid of one.

The main problem I see on ebay for the home theatre usage is that the final prices end up being twice the cost of a decent big screen tv, which is all I need it for anyway.

Basically, a really good deal. :)

A few things to consider:

1. Size. Any specific size and weight requirements (heavy and large make harder to move or mount on ceiling). I'm currently on a 13.7 lb projector, so it's pretty portable, though not an ultraportable

2. Lumen. How bright do you need it? Matters how bright your room is and how big it is. Mine is 1500 Lumen

3. Native resolution. What kind of res do you need? Mine is 1024x768 native, and does HDTV. Do you only need 800x600? They go all the way to 12480x1024.

Well, I live in a small apartment. I can 'borrow' an old broken screen from work and rig it so it covers my entertainment center. My living room gets pretty dark (can get 'cave' dark) so lumen's isnt all that important. I think we got some PLUS 800's that do 750lumens or so..and those are plenty bright, the lights can be on in the board rooms and its fine.

I would build a little wall off behind my couch and run the connectors around the baseboards. Its probably about 15-20 feet from where the screen is (will be) to where the projector will probably go.

800x600 is fine I guess...whatever DVD's will look good at. I got a nice Hitachi 27 inch tv and they look great on that...and regular tv is what, only 480 lines of resolution or something? So as long as the DVD player hooks up I am ok.

I am looking for a projection system for my home also. Surprisingly, since I am in the Bay Area, there is not ONE store where I can buy this system. So your input is greatly appreciated.

I would like a very clear picture that would support HDTV. The room size is probably 800 sf, very light colors. I do not plan on moving the system at all, since I will only use it for TV and DVD use. I am also looking for a screen that slides up and down, so taht I can put it out of site when not in use. Hopefully not manually.

I so not know who the good companies are, or even where to start. Any suggestions?
