View Full Version : need a video card that can substitute a big screen TV for a monitor

My friend is getting ready to buy a computer but instead of using a monitor he wants to use his big screen TV. What kind of video card will he need in order to do this? He is not going to play DVD's off of it, just some gaming and mostly email. Any suggestions for a good video card that he could use?
Anything with a TV-Out. You can get cheap old TNT2's or you can get a GeForce2 with TV-Out, a Radaeon. It's all up to what he wants to spend.

as raimin said, its not very wise unless if you only use it for video, the fact is no normal analogue TV has the resolution or refresh rate to be a practical solution.
i agree with hapoo and raimin, ive used my comp on a sony wega xbr, considered one of the best crt tv's with possibly the best resolution on an analog consumer tv. reading anything on a tv is a pain!. seriously, it gave me a headache. i dont suggest it. if anything, just buy a cheap monitor with a decent refresh rate.
as far as any video, the tv is great, i love playing all my games on it. just need a wireless keyboard, a wireless optical mouse and a wireless joystick.

So what you're saying is that if this guy wants to do a lot of emailing on his system that it would be a little too difficult to read because of the resolution, no matter what card he gets?
