I'm looking to buy a decent IDE harddrive.. probably around the 30-40 GB area . I was wondering which brands are dependable. Also, is 7200rpm the best way to go?? as far as cost/speed is concerned.?? Thanks
I used to say IBM but after seeing the problems their hard drives have had lately. http://www.gotapex.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=22784

7200 is the way to go, don't bother with the 5400 unless you really want to pay less. Maxtor is good, western digital is ok i haven't heard any complaints from my friends, and my roommates, 43gb 7200 ibm is really nice.

I have three 30gigers...
2 maxtor and one IBM...
they are all 7200 ( I wouldn't go less than that unless it is just storage not the OS )
I havent had a problem with any of the drives.....
