Here is a question. I have never heard of anyone ever doing this.
I was wondering if it was at all possible to block certain countries from viewing a website? Like, no one in Portugal would be able to view the site, but every other country would be able to. (Portugal is just an example. I have nothing against Portugal)
Is this even possible? Does anyone else do it?

It is possible. I've read about certain sites and servers preventing contact via Russia because of hacking. Of course I can't remember where, so this isn't really of help to you. Sorry!

i think it would be possible to do a traceroute before the information is sent out. of coarse this might really slow down the initial login to the page.
If you have a software firewall i'm sure you can block certain domains and stuff, would just be a matter of knowing all the isps from that country, which might be a bitch. I don't know , just a thought.

there probably are large chunks of ip's that belong to certain countries but generally you can have an IP from anywhere. I don't understand why you would want to limit use from one country though.

you'd have to setup your server software to do a reverse-DNS lookup on the client. that'll tell ya where the buggers are coming from and then allow\deny them as you see fit.
sounds like it'll creat a small performance hit, but shouldn't be terrible depending on the traffic you're going to get.

Thanks for the help.
That all sounds pretty complicated though. Is there any way to do this w/o paying a ton?
Basically, I want to block all users from China. For personal reasons, if you know what I mean. Please lets not discuss why. I appreciate it.
Anyone know how a relative beginner could do this? Or refer me to somone who could do it pretty cheap?
Thanks
first of all, there is not really a way to get all of them, thanks to proxy servers.
second of all, if i wanna say "thanks" to you, mahalo, how would i do it without being redundant?

You can get some proxy server software, and set the web page on a computer internally, have the software stop incoming requests from chinese domains and DNS requests... It would be basically free, a bitch to load all the ips to not connect to, or you could have a password, like something chinese wouldn't know... HAHAHA Ask this (yes or No) did the Americans intentionally hit our plane out of the sky, only chinese will say yes... hence denying them access!
