What is the msconfig equivalent in Win2k? I assume it is not msconfig since I can't find it.
Same here. I have some contacts at M$ so I'll see what I can find out.

I don't think that there is really a need for it since all of the things in that window are readily accessible in Win2k. Just my opinion though.

The reason I'm asking is because there are a bunch of pesky unnecessary files running from startup, and, of course, they are not in the startup folder, so I'm trying to find a way to stop this from happening and msconfig was the way to do it in win98.

Thanks for the program :)
If you dual boot with win2k and win98 you can run win98's msconfig from win2k. it will give you 3 or 4 error messages because its not totally compatable, but it will give you access to edit the programs that startup when you start windows

just check in the registry
it's usually there in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Run (or something like that)
also check the .ini files

The link on the file that does it is broken. Anyone have a direct link for this program somewhere? Thanks!

The real name of the app is "Startup Cop". If you go to http://www.hotfiles.com and enter "Startup Cop" in the search window, it will be the first match. Great utility -- I've been using it for a while.

Markel it looks like this utility is for Win95/98/NT. Are you using it in Win2K?
SBP, the person that I am asking for doesn't know much about computers, so I'm wondering if it will be easy for them to install those files you mentioned. What do you think? Also, once the files are installed, how do they open the Control Panel?

I didn't notice that this question was was regarding Win2K. (I just noticed the references to Startup Cop.) Guess it won't apply to Win2K.
EsDeeLoco: As chosenfool said all you do it run the program and it works.
