error message "protocol error 254" comes up in the startup.. and.. my network neighborhood is not working (when i double click it, nothing comes up but the hourglass.. showing that nothing is being detected).. i have a 450mhz p3 on windows 98 osr2 and 1400mhz p4 on windows ME.. i have a hawking technology's 4 port hub, netgear FA311 network cards installed on both computers, and the smc EZ connect usb ethernet converter that i have been using to use my cable modem. i ordered an extra ip from @home. right now, i have 3 chords coming out of the hub, one being the uplink connected directly to the cable modem, one chord conneted directly to the netgear card on the 1400mhz, and the other chord is connected to the smc converter and the usb is connected to the 450mhz from the converter. how do i fix the protocol error and what should i change to get my network/internet sharing to work?
thanks alot for your time.

Are you sure that all of the computers are in the same domain?

Ok dude,, Here is is. I have set up a few systems with 1 cable modem in share mode.. This is what I did
2 network cards in your main hub computer, 1 to connect to cable modem, 1 to connect to your hub
other computers need pci network cards
you need to use internet sharing and it should initilize itself, you should just run the wizards.
If you have problems, make sure the green lights are all on. On the hub and the network cards. If they are, there is still a chance you could have a shit net card. Make sure the green lights are steady at the hub when in idle, if they flicker, your netcard might be toast.
Now im not sure how you have the thing hooked up, let me know, and we can go from there. If you only have 1 card in the hub computer, you will need to use a proxy server.
