ok, I'm wanting to buy a car to race with at the local autocross meets. My budget is around $3000. Manual Tranny. ONLY!
I'm not looking for a car with Mods, just the basics. Necessary for the engine/tranny to be in good cond. High miles are OK for most of these cars since they're pretty solid. (I consider 140k+mi to be high)

If you know anyone with any of the following cars for sale, please let me know:

Mid 80's to 1991 BMW (the "is" model is preferred, but not absolutely necessary)
318is
320is
325is

'85 1/2 - 1990 Porsche 944 (non-Turbo is OK, Turbo, S2, etc...)

1983 - 198x? Mazda RX7 w/ 12a or 13B rotary (I like the old body style, not the 2nd body style)

Early 90's Toyota MR2 (turbo would be nice, but expensive)

'88 - '92 Honda CRX (maybe... not sure on this one)

I don't care about the color. The less rust the better. Interior sould be fair, although i imagine i could replace or re-cover torn seats/carpet etc.

I'm serious. I'll buy out-of-state if the price/car is right... I wanna race already!

I'll keep my eye out for 944s and 924s - there are usually a couple for sale on the mailing list I'm on, although most of them are either Turbos ($7000+) or track cars.

Depending on how long you're looking, I may actually be getting rid of my 944 soon (blasphemy, I know). But it's only so I can get a 944 Turbo. :D :D That way I can really endanger myself.

I think I also saw a decent condition 1st-gen RX7 at the Buggy Bank in Berkeley. They've got a web site somewhere - search for it, maybe, or if I've got a chance I'll drop by there and see if it's still around.

Where are you located again? SoCal, right?

haha - no, Oklahoma. :(

cool, let me know if you find anything - no need to drive out of your way though.

I'm gonna go look at a 1st gen '82 Rx7 this weekend here in OKC.

Whoops! Oklahoma, that's right. I'm pretty sure I knew that. Anyway, that pretty much voids any efforts I might make to find you a car, unless you feel like driving to California. Good luck with your autocrossing!

well, I'm willing to drive a few hundred miles to find the right car...

BTW, att this to the list:

mid to late 80's VW Scirocco 16V (i don't like the MKI or MKII)
