okay, go to http://www.dealhunting.com
on that page, there is a link and instructions.
all the people who sign up under the top 51 referrers get one of the $100 value cybiko computer thingys. right now, "dealhunting" is in the top ten, there are five days left to the promotion, so if some apexers go sign up, it is pretty much a guarantee that we will all get one as long as cybiko doesn't crap out. since they say it is available in 9000 different stores, i think this is a big-money promotion, they are trying hard to make cybiko the next big thing," and there is a good chance they will come through.
make sure you use a valid phone number, they said they reserve the right to check validity, and you're disqualified if you lie...

and, as a pre-emptive apology, sorry if anyone thinks this belongs in the spam forum, but this is practically a sure thing, and the only way to get it is to sign up under dealhunting, and i'm not affiliated with dealhunting in any way, so thpppffft if you don't like it, i'm just trying to get you a free cybiko.

The current #1 referer and someone who is also a source of a LOT of deals is "funtasia" of funtasia.net
She is cross posting on other deal boards so she will certainly be in the top 3 in the end.
Just providing another choice is people desired.

P.S. You need to RE-ENTER your street address as it deletes it the first time you enter. Just go to your profile and retype it.
Also, the form doesn't work with the AOL browser (use IE)

The top ten are posted in random order.
At least I think that is what "Note: We point first 10 participants in random order" means on the page http://www.cybiko.com/repcontest/top_score.asp.
Also, what does "...play ripen multiplayer wireless games.." mean on the http://www.cybiko.com/what.asp page? Is there some kind of fruit involved here?

my guess was that they were trying to be cool and say "rippin'" like "gnarly!" or "rad!" but who knows... translating from asian to european languages is a really inexact kind of voodoo...

In the spirit of multi-lingual cooperation, I suggest the following phrasing for their website:
"Be most bad-assed gamer person friends gaming! Fry their white paste buttocks!"

After reading some of the info on the machine, I wonder why they say it is only for teens. It looks nice to me.

This is going to be one hell of a pay-off if everyone who signs up under dealhunting wins. I don't exactly get what their rules are for this, though
For April 12th thru April 30th 2001, all valid Registrants of the grand (1) and first place (50) Cybiko Rep winners will win Cybiko handheld computers.

Well Bolt did that deal where you got $100 worth of stuff free if you bought during the "magic hour" and then all the freebie sites combined and took them for a bundle.
Anyway, Bolt paid off and they were cool (as a company) but stupid (as far as promotions) in my book.
Too bad I am not a potential customer of theirs.
P.S. I was willing to PAY FOR a Cybiko so I am totally up for this (even though I am > 30 )

Are we SURE this will get us a Free Cybiko unit?
I read the rules and it sounds like only the rep gets a free unit.
I can't imagine they'd just give away a few thousand of these.
BTW, I did sign up, but sumthin' seems fishy. :hmm:
Ripped from contest page:
What do I get?
BIG bucks! The TOP two (2) Cybiko Reps receive a Grand Prize of $500.00 + a Free Cybiko Computer for the two TOP Cybiko Reps!
50 First place prizes of $100.00 + a Free Cybiko Computer for the next top 50 Cybiko Reps!
100 Second place prizes of $25.00!
500 Third place prizes of 100 Cybucks!

I will be extremely surprised if Cybiko follows through with this. I think one of the following is going on:
1. They didn't have a clue that freebie and deal boards exist, and that individuals would end up with thousands of referrals.
2. Poor/incorrect wording in the official rules (first it says they are giving away 51 Cybiko units, then later it says the top 51 winner's registrants will get one.)
Let's say their annual sales of these is 100,000 units. I figure they could be on the hook to give away at least 10,000 with this promotion. Do you think they would actually give away 10% of their annual production?
...of course, I signed up anyway! ;)
I signed up with dealhunting as the referall, but did anyone notice this on the cybiko website???
(If you were referred to Cybiko Community by a friend, enter the CyLogin of that person to ensure they receive referral benefits. There is a limit of referring two friends.)
J-Dogg
04-25-2001, 11:31 PM
All that means is that you can only refer two friends, such as dealhunting and another one.
Dman33
04-26-2001, 05:54 AM
Granted, this is a pretty neat thing and I would not mind getting one...but:
As kb0wwp and NullUnit2000 pointed out, this might be a mistake in the translation and only the referrer will get the free Cybiko...
I mean, afterall: "All your base are belong to me!"

Just got an email from Cybiko, which reads (in part):
In a couple of days we are starting the validation process on YOUR Registrants' info.
REP's who's Registrants have false info, will be disqualified!
If someone (like dealhunting) has thousands of registrants, how hard would it be to find one with false info?
IlliniFan

I agree, I know that they have at least 1,000 under dealhunting... if even one of them is invalid they can invalidate all of dealhunting's referrals. Who knows, one 12 year old that signs up his goldfish for a Cybiko can spoil it for all of us. But it is pretty clear though...
Why should my friends register, when I encourage them?
Tell them that they have a chance to win a FREE Cybiko handheld computer…a $100 value if YOU - a Cybiko Rep become one of the top 51 Cybiko Reps nationwide…that's right, each of your friends will win a FREE Cybiko handheld computer!

Who wrote the rules for this thing!?!?!?!?
"Why should my friends register, when I encourage them?

Just in this one paragraph they go from have a chance of winning a Cybiko to the will win a Cybiko.
Very dubious. :hmm:

I think you are all gullible on this deal. My feeling is that they are going to harvest all the personal information they collect to be sold to SPAM lists. Just a thought.
What the hell, I'll sign up too just for fun but I'm not counting on anything.
MaggieOK

DealHunting has well over 2,000 referrals. AND, it looks like as of 1:30pm CDT, the deal is essentially dead. This is now on their site:
"With only a few days left only additional entries from your school (13-18 years old) will be accepted and added to your registrants list.
Thanks!"
Not sure how legal that is.. but that's what it says. They've also changed the wording of their eligibility line today. I have a copy from before they changed it.
They have changed their wording in their terms and conditions in the last couple of hours! They're now saying to be a valid rep you have to be 13-18 years old and can only refer people from your school and city! It used to say that you just had to be 13 or OLDER, etc.. etc..
Looks like they are going to have a class action on their hands. I know at LEAST 8,000 people are signed up.

You'd think these companies would learn that upsetting a few thousand people is NOT a good way to promote your services.
I'm sure there is something in their terms that allows them to change the rules any time they want. Now they have a nice, HUGE email list, and probably only .01% or less of the registrants even qualify for a free machine.

Can you imagine what it has been like at the Cybiko home office the past few days? I bet they're wandering around with the "deer in the headlights" look. They had NO CLUE how the internet works, which is pretty sad for a company that makes a toy as advanced as their handheld computer.
Years from now (if they're still in business) they'll be talking about that stupid "referral" contest.
New contest: how many people will lose their jobs over this?
welfareloser
04-26-2001, 12:34 PM
thhhpppffft. if it is illegal, nobody has the time to put in all the work to force them to pay up.
the wording seems to indicate pretty clearly that, should a referral prove to be false, only that one will be invalidated, ie, not count toward the referrer's total and not get a cybiko.
the wording about who gets one was, at times, ambiguous, but when it WAS clear, it clearly stated that all referrals of top 51 referrers got one.
doesn't seem to matter now, tho. they are back-paddling on shit creek.
brettman: you are an ass for calling us all gullible. it is always POSSIBLE that something like this will come through - about 10% of the time, they do. and just because we signed up, and are now hoping and speculating, does not mean that we are thoroughly convinced that it will absolutely happen. YOU are gullible if that's what you believe.
and you're ugly and jo mama dresses you funny. and i fart in your general direction.

Oh I needed that laugh. Don't know why that struck me so funny.
I have filed a complaint with the FTC and I urge everyone else to do the same. Sure, no one has the time or money to go after these guys by themselves, but if 10,000 people sat down for two minutes and filled out the online form at http://www.ftc.gov there would be an investigation.

One of the other large referrers talked to the owner of the company and was told they'd probably be honoring registrations up to the point of the rule change and close the contest early. So, who knows what's going to happen. We'll just have to wait and see.

Why would we file a complaint against this company to the FTC if we do not even know what the outcome is going to be yet?
AFAIK they are going to honor the deal (although it is not the most likely outcome) and then I will feel guilty for bothering the FTC and this company's legal dept because I was worried about the wording of the rules.
I hope you all can be patient and see how this company handles this situation. They might make a believer out of me yet...
Got this in the mail:
"Due to many
participants, we are ONLY allowing 13-18 year old to enter for the last few
days of the contest."
To me it reads that if you register now and are over 18, you won't get it, but people who registered early are still ok.
I don't know why, but I have a feeling this one will go through.
Definately too early to start complaining.

"Only 4 days left in the incredible Cybiko REP contest. Due to many participants, we are ONLY allowing 13-18 year old to enter for the last few days of the contest."
The Key words are: "for the last few days of the contest"
Sounds Like: "...from now on..."
Just me 2 cents

I just got an email from Cybiko stating:
Hey shogun88
Only 4 days left in the incredible Cybiko REP contest. Due to many
participants, we are ONLY allowing 13-18 year old to enter for the last few
days of the contest.
You are encouraged to sign-up people from your school! ONLY registrants
that come from YOUR SCHOOL will be qualified as valid registrants.
REMEMBER, only those who come form your school will be added to your
Registrant's list.
Go tell your school friends to SIGN-UP.

So, this whole school thing pretty much screws over dealhunting and all its registrants.... Man, I was so excited about this too...

This was posted on the dealhunting website
Update #2: We`re in the TOP 3! This is really looking good for all of us. Even sites like DealSpree and GotApex are having their members join under us!Update #3: They`re now only letting people refer folks from their own school and 13-18 years old. They have also CHANGED their official rules to only allow reps between 13 and 18 years old, even though it used to say 13 and over and say you can only refer people from your own high school. In other words, they got too large of a response and they`re trying to get out of it!Update #4:One of the other large referrers talked to the owner of the company and was told they`d probably be honoring registrations up to the point of the rule change and close the contest early. So, who knows what`s going to happen. We`ll just have to wait and see.
