I have a Sony clie and it won't sync up with my computer. The funny thing is that it was working two days ago. Then two days ago, it would sync up a few times, then stop, saying that "my serial port are in use by another application." I have nothing else plugged in my usb ports. Now, it never syncs up.
I called Sony and they couldn't fix it. They think it's my USB ports screwing up. I have removed and reinstalled my usb drivers, but still no luck. Anyone have any other ideas?
Thanks!! Gear

How does the Sony USB work? I recall the Palm USB adapter installing itself as a serial port sharing an IRQ with one of the "standard" serial ports. Perhaps you're having a resource conflict of some sort.

that sounds about right, but how would I find this irq conflict? if i'm not using my real com ports, cna't I just disable them so they don't conflict?

You can disable them in your BIOS or your profile (depending on the OS). Check your device manager to see if there's a conflict. Also, what OS are you using?

Are you using any other serial devices (modem)--can you disable your serial ports and try?

I don't have the Sony, but I do use a Visor. Every once in a while, it will just decide not to sync. If I do a soft reset, it will sync again.
So, this might not have anything to do with an IRQ conflict, but a Palm issue. Try doing a soft reset and see if that gets you syncing again.

Yeah, it's the little button you have to poke with a paper clip...

ok...soft reset doesn't work.
My bios (Abit kt7) doesn't have an option of disabling com ports. I did disable them through the device manager, but the sync program apparently uses the com1 port to sync through the usb ports.
Anyone else have an idea? These are great but they aren't doing the trick.

You can't disable com ports? Seems odd, what kind of BIOS is that?

ok...i disabled Advanced Configuration and Power Interface so now my usb ports are sharing irqs with my ethernet card. I got my synching working for a minute, but now it stopped working again. So I know it's an irq problem, but why did it work then stop working?
