this site used to be on the main deals page and was a really great deal (I stress the word "WAS").

they have a lot of useful services for auotmobile owners like insurance deals, loans, car buying services, the popular INSURANCE ON YOUR AUTO INSURANCE, and the VERY polpular 10% OFF GAS, GAS CARD.-Only now they no longer have the gas card service anymore.

The past two weeks I have called several times and at first they said, "we expect to have the gas service working again by Tuesday." After Tuesday, they changed to, "we expect to have the gas card working by Friday." - That was LAST Friday.

This Monday, with the card still not working, I went to their website, http://www.carclub.com , and it says that they are discontinuing their gas service.

I called and expressed my deep dissappointment in the way they handeled the whole situation and cancelled my membership.

I advise those of you with the membership, $5.99 per month, to re-evaluate whether this is still a deal now that they will no longer have their biggest attraction.

They main deal page said they were giving away $20 gift certificates to Amazon.com. After the free membership expired and I still didn't see any gift certificate, I started getting billed like you would expect. I went ahead and continued the subscription for another 3 months, and then decided to cancel after not seeing or hearing anything for 6 months. when I called to cancel they said that because I was into the fourth month, I would still have to pay for the entire month. when I asked them about the gift certificate, they said they had never heard of anything like that.

net gain = -$23.96

even if I had gotten the gift certificate I would have been down almost 4 bucks. I advise you to steer clear! Im very dissapointed gotapex decided to run that on the deals page, even after people started complaining about it. I hope someone got something good out of it, because I sure didn't.

Apparently, carclub has gone down the tubes! Here's a quote from their site:

"It is with deep regret that carclub.com has closed its doors and joins those companies that have fallen casualty to the diminished availability of investment capital in this constrained economy."

Well, I signed up when they were running the $10 free gas card to ARCO promo.

I DID receive the $10 gas card.

I don't recall anything about a gift cert. for Amazon but there may have been a promo like that, I really don't know.

In all I saved $33 by using the gas card, received the $10 gas card for enrolling, and had their "insurance on my insurance" coverage.

I paid $5.99 a month for all of these services and was only a paying member for about 2 or 3 months so I am basically up $25.03.

I'd say that was a positive experience. Too bad they died; I'll miss them.

Signed up, got something free (don't remember what). I paid $36 for a year membership and saved $200 in gas! I can't believe this service is shutting down...

Hmm... $36 - $200 = -$164. I don't have any problem believing they would end up shutting down. :)
