This isn't a slam, but it isn't much of a deal to me. I wouldn't buy it. It's Micro ATX, little RAM, no hard drive, seemingly genereic and crappy video card and an integrated sound card. All you're really paying for is the chip and the mobo. Build your own for less with better components. Just my 2 cents.

I just built a 1.1 Athlon system w/256Mb, 20Gb 7200RPM, Regular ATX for under $400.

how did you build one for under $400? Is that w/ tax and shipping?
Can you please list the detail specs and links to the site where you purchased the parts? Cuz, that's sounds like a real deal.

Please tell us how you put it together for $400.00.

Can you itemize the list?? (Where and how much)

I need something like this for myself.

Thanks!

Newegg:
Epox EP-8KTA2L (KT133A) $83 + TBird 1GHz $133 + $10 shipping

Staples:
20GB drive $59 after $20 MIR this week

Local store
ATX Case $30

Pricewatch
256MB PC133 memory $45 + $8 shipping

that leaves $27 for a 1.44 floppy and a decent heatsink (Coolermaster or something else common).

You still need a video card, speakers, mouse, KB and monitor of course. The Epox mobo above has built in sound. But if you're upgrading, those things can be reused from the old system.

Just imagine, in a few months, a TBird 1.4GHz will go for the same price or less. Maybe even a DDR mobo for the same price. Probably will not be any DDR memory for this cheap.

If I were building this as a complete system for myself, I'd probably get a slower CPU and just overclock it on a different motherboard, get some ACS33 speakers ($25), an OEM MS Natural KB and OEM Intellimouse ($25 for both at the computer show), a cheap generic 17" monitor (~$110) and a Radeon LE (~$75). Total price for a complete 1GHz system: ~$625 including tax. Pretty good deal for decent parts.
