i just called and its only a hard drive. 10.2 gig to be exact. didnt wanna get screwed like last time.
I'm in on an order in as well. Was skeptical about the title.. but the description seems right, and VLI8 is the HP model.
We'll see what happens with this one...

Staples just confirmed - its the Hard Drive not the computer, just called up, took 30 seconds to cancel my order, oh well nothing lost.
Ah, that bites. Staples. LOL. Time to do an update.

Actually just called and was told they can't honor it becasue it does not actually say computer in the descrption, they said those would be suggested items to go with it...

Was gunna get a computer for my little sis.
05-15-2000, 12:43 AM
Wouldnt that be false advertising on their part??
So it seem like there is now way they will honor this order?
05-15-2000, 12:45 AM
damn it... i hate staples...
05-15-2000, 12:46 AM
HAHA Staples just called, to let me know that my order was a typographical error. At any rate, how are you guys cancelling orders in 30 seconds? I told her to cancel it and she said, If it comes refuse it, but I don't know if I can cancel it.
05-15-2000, 12:48 AM
This is probably just staples getting back at us [the coupon abuser?] for buying thousands, if not millions, of dollars of merchandise at less than cost (not to mention free shipping).

What to do... what to do. It's almost like showing a thirsty man in a desert a lake. An oasis in the distance. Un-freakin-believable OH!! http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/smile.gif
05-15-2000, 12:52 AM
funny thing is, she said she would call the supplier and have them not charge me. Like they were doing fulfillment through someone else. Oh well, I wont get charged, if I do, I'll call AmEx and let them know. Thank god for AmEx. I think they just flagged my account, because I have gotten away with free stuff from Staples with their screw-ups because AmEx's online fraud prevention. She called almost 20 seconds after I placed the order. Any rate, we'll see what happens.
05-15-2000, 01:17 PM
damn!! i should have read this post before submitting!! too good to be true
05-15-2000, 01:25 PM
Could this be a case of Staples revenge? They sure processed those orders pretty freakin' fast compared to the last time I ordered something.... Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!
05-15-2000, 01:35 PM
NO GOOD... just cancelled my order. the lady from staples was actually really nice to me. I was surprised after all the earlier coupon orders I had to cancel before. all this thing is, is a 10.2 GB Spartan hard drive.. and NOT a computer with all that other stuff. hope everyone else gets to cancel.
05-15-2000, 01:41 PM
you would think they would fix it on their page immediately, right? i think they like this... seriously. They fixed the coupons a week after they got 'released' and this still is at $123... completely lame.
05-15-2000, 01:55 PM
Damn, I too wish I had checked the forums before jumping the gun and ordering! I just called and cancelled as well.
05-15-2000, 02:46 PM
i just talked to the CSRs, and she said the whole "the title is correct, but the description is wrong," so I asked the obvious question; "umm...the title includes the P3-550E, so i'm going to have to demand that you send me a processor along with the hard drive." She didn't seem to be very smart because she was taking a while to answer any questions, but when this hard drive does arrive, i'm going to show my credit card company my printed out receipt and will tell them that Staples swapped orders on me, because Staples once again is screwing us with their idiocy. Hopefully my Credit Card wil have balls enough to fight for me. We'll find out sooner or later.
05-15-2000, 03:39 PM
Come'on guys. You KNOW staples has made mistakes before. You think they'd really honor that? Don't get so upset, you know they wouldn't. "If it's too good to be true, it probably is."
05-15-2000, 03:44 PM
Boy! I came pretty close on completing my order. And then I started thinking this is too good to be true. Sure enough! Good thing I caught you guys or else I would have to go through the cancelling as well.
just my luck to order it and have to call in and cancel no less than a minute... who's developing there website... high school students ???? no disrespect to ya hs.... as i was once a long long time ago
05-15-2000, 04:36 PM
I called to cancel the order just minutes after I made the order. I got a confirmation E-mail saying that what I had ordered was a 10.2 gig hard drive. The guy said that he would put in a note to cancel it but it may not work so I should refuse the order if it is shipped. About 30 minutes later I got a call from a rep saying that there is no way to cancel the order and that I would have to refuse it when UPS delivers it and then when they get it back they would credit my card. I think it's ridiculous that in this time and age they cannot cancel an order that was just placed! So basically I'm out $100 on my bank account (I charged it on a debit card) for a couple of weeks because of Staples false advertising...and that's exactly what it is.

Just received confirmation on my non-order. Looks like they may finally get it. Here is the email:
Thank you for shopping at Staples.com
I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you, but due to a
error on our website, the item that you are thinking about ordering is
not a computer, it is a hard drive. Again I do apologize for this but
it was a error on the website. This has been brought to our attention
and it will take us atleast 24 hour to correct this mistake. If you
further assistance be call us.
Thank you for shopping at Staples.com,

Well, I had tried to jump the gun (order before checking here) but it now appears that they are "out of stock," and so won't be taking orders for that item anymore. I'm guessing thats how they get around this problem since it takes them 24hrs to correct their site.
Its all an exercise in futility working with them, however. As I learned well from the fiasco with the HP FlatScreen FX70 monitors ($1199 priced at $249 by mistake), Stapes has a policy of charging what they feel like, not what they advertise...
05-15-2000, 07:33 PM
You guys should just leave staples.com alone - not because it's nice (who gives a damn for them, I don't), but because all they'll ever do is annoy you. I gave up on those whores, that company has the worst business practices ever.
05-15-2000, 07:48 PM
Although I hate to admit it, Civic is right... People do make mistakes and yelling isn't gonna do anything to a big comapny, unless we hack the site and change the motto to "We staple the hell out of you" nothing will ever be done, or we get Judge Judy and take them to Court heeheh, wouldn't that be great, yes we have 5000 people who didn't recieve their merchandise @300 a person please make them pay up. The only company I know of who honors their mistakes is EddieBauer.com, I work for them and they make damn sure its correct the first time...
Anyway I'm glad I checked the Fourm before this one, also you can always call in your orders and make sure its legit. Good luck anyway.

I saw this deal last thursday while searching for a drive and didi a search under western digital and this vectra came up. I ordered 2 and hoping that I'm gonna get it before I post it and make sure it's the right stuff. Well apex posted it yesterday and I got the shipment from staples. Sure enough, it's a 10.2GB hard drive. I called staples and they apologize for shipping the wrong product so UPS is picking up the hard drives and the CSR said they will send the right product and also send me coupons. BTW I stacked 3 $20 coupons when I put my order in.

When I spoke to the woman at customer service, she told me that they didn't even offer this product. Could you please let me know if they do actaully send you the computer?
