Hello Chris!

Congratulations! You are a Cybiko Rep contest winner. You will receive a Cybiko computer. If you have any questions or concerns, please email us at [email protected]

Woo Hoo! It looks like they're going to come through!

You also have the opportunity to order a second Cybiko for $49. I think I will, and give them to my twins for their birthday.

Thanks a million Maggie!

I got it too - I'm pretty happy about that. I am wondering why they need my SS # to process this. Does anyone think it is possibly for tax purposes, since they are gonna lose money big time on this giveaway.

they need your SS# so you will only get one ...

that way you can get one if you send out lots of dups of your self at different addresses...

Considering they are aiming this thing at school age kids they sure do lay the legal mumbo jumbo down thick.

I think this is the paragraph that allows them to come into my house and help themselves to what ever's in the frige:

"I hereby agree that Cybiko, Inc., Sponsors or any entity connected with the Contest shall have, without further obligation to me, the right to use my name, voice, email address, likeness, and/or photograph, biographical and prize registration information for advertising, promotional and marketing purposes in conjunction with this and similar promotions without notice to me and without further compensation."

I bold faced the part about registration information because we basicly had to tell them EVERYTHING about us to quailfy. Pretty damn shady.

I also fired an email off to them asking why they need my SSN. When someone asks me for something like that they'd better have a damn good reason. :hmm:

What??
If you are referring to the e-mail sent out on the 26th of April, then please crawl out from under your rock. The e-mail that went out today (May 4) complies to the origional rules (13 and up). Perhaps you signed up after the rule change?

I am worried however about the SSN request. I refuse to give out that info, period.

If anyone gets word about the SSN thing, please let us know! I have a feeling that this is an attempt to 'dodge the bullet' if you know what I mean...

I HEREBY RELEASE AND FOREVER DISCHARGE CYBIKO, INC., THE SPONSORS AND THEIR EMPLOYEES, PARENT CORPORATIONS, SUBSIDIARIES, AFFILIATES, AGENTS, ASSIGNS, ETC., OR ANY ENTITY OR PERSON CONNECTED WITH THE CONTEST FROM AND AGAINST ANY AND ALL CLAIMS, DEMANDS, LOSSES AND LIABILITIES OF ANY NATURE WHATSOEVER THAT THE UNDERSIGNED MAY NOW OR HEREAFTER BE ENTITLED TO ASSERT, INCLUDING, BUT WITHOUT LIMITATION, ANY DEATH, INJURY, LOSS OF ENJOYMENT OR OTHER HARM OR LOSS OF ANY NATURE WHATSOEVER CAUSED BY, CONTRIBUTED TO, OR ARISING OUT THE CONTEST, INCLUDING
BUT NOT LIMITED TO, MY PARTICIPATION THEREIN OR ANY PRIZE AWARDED TO ME IN ASSOCIATION
THEREWITH.

Now, it is Friday and I am in an odd mood right now, so keep that in mind and that IANAL:

Read this paragraph carefully. It states that you cannot hold Cybiko or anyone slightly affiliated with them liable for anything including death, injury, Loss of Enjoyment or any other bad thing that might happen to you...

So they can kill your cat, burn your house, send you a mail bomb, SPAM YOU, stick staples in your forehead, slash your tires (if you have a car), and/or bend you over and have their way with you if they wish.

Of course this affidavit does not protect them from criminal charges, it is just that if anything ever did happen, you have no civil recourse at all. So if the unit is defective and burns you and your house...too bad. (As long as they are not criminally liable).

Scary....

Haven't you guys ever won a contest before?

I worked in radio for 12 years and we gave away everything from lottery tickets to cars and vacations. Whenever the prize had a value of $250 or more, they had to sign an affidavit very similar to the one we have all received. And yes, we required their SSN. The SSN was necessary because we had to report the value of the prize to the IRS. The IRS considers a prize as income, which is normally taxable.

Now, a prize with a value of $100 seems pretty small for this type of legalese, but Cybiko is well within their rights to require this information.

You don't have to provide your SSN, and you don't have to receive the prize. But I'm afraid you can't have one without the other!

What happens if you put the wrong ssn, say if you are off by a number or two?

Do you think they will check each one?

I gave them a bogus SSN. I dont think they're going to waste the manpower to go through thousands of numbers. Will have to wait and see though ..<sigh>

You're proably safe, but make sure you change a number or two in the last four digits. The first two sets of numbers (xxx-xx) identify your place of birth and your last name at birth. While they won't try to match them up with you personally, they may be able to tell if they're bogus.
