i put in an order for a new impreza wrx, and it's coming in sometime this week. the question i have is are subaru's very reliable? there is not much literature on the company and i was wondering if anyone has positive or negative things before i actually fork over the dough and pick up the car.

The newer ones are pretty good (newer than '94 or so) - two friends of mine back home have Outbacks ('95 and '99), and never have any problems. Scheduled maintenance and the occasional tune-up, and one has had problems with tire wear due to his alignment being off, but aside from that they've been solid.

The old ones suck, though. My dad used to have an '87 Subaru something-or-other, and it was a pile. I'm pretty sure you won't have any more problems with the Impreza than you would with any other Japanese car, unless you drive it like the devil's on your tail all the time. Most cars don't like that.

I don't know, but don't think that all japanese cars are the same. Only toyotas, nissans and hondas are good. The rest are pretty bad. Definitely check out consumer reports. You're gonna be stuck with the car for awhile (unless you're willing to bite the bullet on resale) so research it diligently.

From what I can tell, a BMW 325 is cheaper than an WRX when you figure initial cost minus resale over 4 years.

actually, i've heard that nissans have horrible tranny's. i have a friend who had to replace hers twice in two years. and they purchased the car new. thanks for the insight tho.

My cousin has one and the car is pretty safe. One of the reasons is because of the 4WD. If you are concerned about the safely, why not put a roll cage to ensure the max safety. ;)

The most reliable car you can buy is a Lexus. Lexus is made by Toyota, so there goes your second. Third? BMW (even thought I hate them). Fourth? Honda/Nissan.

These are only my opinions, but it's also opinions of alot of magazine dudes.
