My computer occasionally freezes.. I am not sure why.. one thing I can think of is my Pentium III and the plastic piece that holds it together have been damanged. But the cpu is still firmly in its slot.. I don't see what's wrong though.. any help or opinion would help.

That's as vague as "my car makes a funny noise" with no additional info.

Okay narrowing it down, I think my fan is busted (or malfunctioning). Can that cause my system to freeze? Any suggestions on where to get fans and what kind should I get?
TIA

It most definitely can. Without a fan--depending which fan--various system components will very rapidly overheat. The worst is a CPU fan failure. Intel chips have automatic heat shutoffs. But if you have an AMD chip, it'll run till it fries itself. That's why some AMD motherboards monitor the CPU fan's spin rate.

Mezpin,
thanks.
So most likely, if my fan is busted, my Intel chip shutting off is causing my computer to freeze, correct?
anybody knows what kind of fans are good for a pIII 650?

It shuts off before it does permanent damage, though not necessarily before you get errors. I dunno if your processor actually shut down.
