Hmmm a 101MB update....
Anyone know if they are sneaking the WinXP product registration with hardware profile in this update?

yes they have inserted the xp security features... damn microsoft for caring about profits so much...
i decided to let them come knocking... i am not going to pay for win2k 5 times for 5 different computers...
I don't think they have found a way to force us to upgrade to SP2..so just stick with SP1. :D

Where have they included any XP security features? I loaded SP2 up this morning & haven't noticed any.

I've had it installed since early this afternoon. Honestly, I haven't really noticed anything different other than the "SP2" thing in Explorer. Granted I haven't really taken the time to explore it, but everything looks as normal to me so far. New features aren't just jumping out at me.
But then again, that's probably how a service pack installation SHOULD be... uneventful.

Never, never, never use an even-numbered service pack from Microsoft. It's just asking for trouble. NT SP2 was absolutely evil, and SP4 was pretty ugly as well.

Here's some info from wininformant.com and a MUCH faster link to SP2. I originally downloaded it at around 150kb/s...this link gave me about 800kb/s!
In any event, there is a small chance that the "final" SP2 release could differ slightly from that which was released on Friday. I'll be comparing the two to see whether this is the case, but Microsoft told me that barring any huge, unforeseen problem, the version released on Friday would be the final version released this week.
I'll have more detailed information about SP2 when it's publicly released, but in the meantime, Conxion has provided me with a new download URL that is more efficient and geographically-aware. If you are going to download this update before the final release, please use this address.
http://download.microsoft.com/download/win2000platform/sp/sp2/nt5/en-us/w2ksp2.exe
(download is 101 MB).

The only issues I've read about in newsgroups is some incompatablility with Norton Anti-Virus. One guy said his A: drive couldn't be seen anymore. But most people shouldn't have any problems.
