I got these cell phone accessories dirt cheap! I've been looking for some radiation shields for my cell and i found a good deal for them at http://www.buynshop.com for only $7.95. AMAZON got these things priced at $19.95. I got two, one for myself and one for my girlfriend. I also got a few signal boosters. And they shipped the stuff out pretty quickly. I'm a happy camper.

do these things really work?

comments?

I was hestitant to buy it but after doing some reading, i found out that it's made in Japan (not CHINA). Many newer cell phones coming out have built-in radiation shields now. I know my phone does not have one built-in and at $7.95 compared to $19.95, i don't mind. Plus the internal antenna is helping with getting signals on my phone too. Like i said, i'm a happy camper.

so how do you know if your phone has one built in? And how is that signal booster?

There is some research that a little cell phone radiation is actually good (it energizes the cell and so it stimulates them). Others say it energizes them into tumors and still other say that the energized cells then attack neighboring cells.

The problem is that this takes years to study and it is hard to have a perfect control (i.e. user is not also exposed to other cancer/tumor risk factors)

Will it protect my private parts, since I keep my phone in my pocket most of the time?

NOW that would be something for the scientists to do some research on. Radiation and sex performance...hahaha

Hi guys,

Dont't be fooled by the intennae. It does not work. I have bought one and found that it does not work at all. I was quite upset and asked a graduate student at MIT to conduct some tests. The experiments showed that the lil' sticker antennae does absolutely nothing. DO NOT waste your money.

I'm no MIT grad, but when i see extra signals in my phone i see it working. As for the radiation shield, buynshop.com got it at the lowest price i've seen. It beats paying $20 buck-a-roos from Amazon.com

Compare for yourself:

$7.95 http://www.buynshop.com

$19.99 http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/browse/-/530534/ref=wco_brbx_c_2_4/102-2024271-7244169

That's what i call a DEAL

riznick - your bollocks are pretty safe. I'm assuming you don't make calls with the phone in your pocket. :)

For the most part, mobiles only transmit while you're in a call. There are some exceptions, usually to do with handoffs to another cell, but those are bursts that last fractions of a second, rather than continuous transmission. When you're not in a call, your mobile is more or less asleep, conserving as much battery life as it possibly can.

Is it true that using a mic, earpiece (handsfree set) actually increases the radiation by up to a factor of 3x? I saw this on ExtraTV but it is ExtraTV so I don't know how credible that is, but I went online and I think it was on a CNET report that a European study found that using a handsfree set increases the radiation by 3x, but that just doesn't make any sense. Can anyone comment on this?

dunno

i've heard that too...

from what i can guess, the earpiece works just like a portable FM radio on your walkman; since there is no antenna on your walkman to receive FM signals, the earpieces act as the antennae. if that's the case, it's actually worse to use an earpiece w/your cellphone since although you would be getting better reception, you'd be getting a direct feed of radiation into your ear.
however, if that really WERE the case, my ears would be completely radiated from all the radio listening i've been doing w/my walkman...ugh.

but i'm just guessing here, using my fuzzy logic to try to figure out this mystery =)

Now someone should do a study on walkmans and compare them to cell phones

Do you worry about the possible long term damaging health effects of electromagnetic waves being emitted by your mobile phone?

The health hazards associated with electromagnetic waves emitted by mobile phones are still only being 'guessed at' but there is mounting scientific evidence linking the use of mobile phones to ear-drum pain, skin irritation, headache, increased blinking due to dryness of eyes, facial flushing, reduced sensitivity and dizziness.

Additionally, due to changing hormone patterns, some women may suffer from sterility or difficulties during pregnancy.

No... earphones are not conducive to the radiation problem. Experiments show that this is a false assumption.

i have heard reports on some newsmagazine shows that the headsets with earbud type speakers which go into the ear canal can actually increase the amount of radiation that the cell phone emits. but the kind that lays flat on your ear MAY reduce radiation, but there is no guarentee that it will reduce anything

For anyone who has one of the antenna boosters:

Is there any difference between taping a flat piece of spiraled copper and using the booster?

I would think that the savings would be nearly 100% since most people can find a tiny piece of scrap copper/wire.

Ok, this radiation stuff is humorous. You all have to realize that there are different types of radiation. Light from the frickin light bulb is radiation (light radiation). There is also electromagnetic radiation emitted by every device that has electricity flowing through it and is not shielded. Thats the type cell phones have. Then there is the dangerous stuff, like gamma radiation or whatever its called. Thats the kind nuclear plants have, but only inside. Electromagnetic radiation is everywhere and in similar quantities as to that phone next to your head. It is basically the same whether in a cell phone or a regular phone(wires or wireless). And in fact, those power lines lining the street probably emit more to your head than the cell phone right against it. Now, your head does absorb some radio waves that are used to transmit the signals. The only problem is that you lose a little bit of the connection b/c of this problem. It isn't a health risk(except maybe straining your ears to hear through all that bad quality sound). Of course, all the cell phone companies and retailers are going to say stuff like, "it is hard to tell, but it is possible that there is a link between radiation from cell phones and various health problems". They want to sell the accessories. Your shielding is just s 20c peice of lead anyway(my guess, not sure) that you were sold for $10. It probably does reduce the radiation and maybe even improve reception by reflecting the signals that would have normally been absorbed by your head.

I got the antennae boosters on Ebay for $3 each, and the S&H charge was $2.. Most of the ebay auctions are dutch and they charge like $3 dollar shipping if you buy like 4 of them. I bought a bunch with my friends. I mean they don't provide supremely great reception. It gives you that little itty bitty boost that can help at tiems when u just need reception badly.
