FOB is nowhere near as offensive as either of those ethnic slurs, and besides...the offendability of all of those slurs should, in my opinion, depend on the manner in which it was said. If Leon said "Fuck those god damned FOBs; why don't they just go back to Asia!" then I'd understand being upset...but not over this.

My roommate (who is one of my best friends) and I always joke about stuff like this, as do most people. I'll regularly walk into our room and say "What's up Wetback?" (he's mexican) and he'll respond with "Not too much, Kraut" (i'm german). Neither of us end up offended. Some people don't view the world in this same light-hearted manner...and if you're one of them, I pity you. You're cursing yourself to a lifetime of offense and whining.

First of all, many things can be described as "fobbish" or "fobby" without labelling it in a derogatory fashion. I reserve the right, however, to make as much fun as I want to of a) anything from a goddamn Sanrio store and b) any cartoon with characters with eyes larger than their hands. :)

You are incredibly sensitive about fobbish nature. I'm not generally one to get offended by off-color remarks regarding race, creed, and whatnot, but the word fob IS a derogatory term. If someone is upset by it, show a wee bit of class and respect and not use it. Don't act like complete *******s and give him shit about it, because all you're doing is trying to justify intolerance, which is bullshit.

I know for many of the southeast asian communities in the Bay Area, there is a fair bit of animosity between new immigrants and their 2nd generation or more naturalized brethren. Fob is commonly used as a VERY derogatory term in these circles. This could be true in other parts of the country as well. So please do everyone else a favor and use your little brains a bit before you go piling on someone FOR ABSOLUTELY NO GOOD REASON AT ALL!!!
