I bought the PlayStation 2 for an insane amount of money and have yet to feel like I got what I paid for. Highly anticipating the release of Metal Gear Solid 2 and Final Fantasy X, which both look AWESOME!

Saw the X-Box and GameCube at E3. Of the 2, I think that the X-Box is better. The graphics look awesome! Got a chance to play Halo and I was hooked right there. Had I known the X-Box would have been released so soon, I would have hesitated to buy the PS2.

Hmm not bad, I need to get myselft another one since someone stole mine :(

But around the time when the X-box and Gamecube come out Sony will lower the price of the PS2, hopefully to somewhere around 199 or so... but we will have to wait and see.

I read an article somewhere that the PS2 will be dropped to 279 or so by the time Xbox hits. GameCube will be $199. The Xbox looks great! But it seems like they got most the software companies except for one major one which is SquareSoft....

I was at E3, and gamecube totally ripped Xbox a new one. All of the Xbox games were boring (except Halo), and ALL unpolished. Halo couldn't run 4 player over 20 fps. Every game at nintendo's booth was running rock soild 60 fps and looked amazingly better. Delevelopers were getting very worried at the show because they don't think XBox will be ready for launch. No developers have seen final dev kits or hardware. I actually managed to crash the Halo demo on the show floor. And anyone who was at the show knows that XBox has the worst controller since the jaguar. The Gamecube controller felt so so so very nice. I was terribly worried that it would feel like crap because it looks so funny, and I have big hands. I was completely wrong. It really did feel perfect. And all of the Gamecube games were so much fun. WaveRace and Smash Bros. were my favorite. Sony did make a very nice show with devil may cry (so much fun!) and Metal Gear Solid 2, but I heard that developers are having very long productions cycles. I wanted to give Xbox a chance, and I was hoping it would be awesome, but it was just so dissapointing, even to the Xbox fan I went with. Sorry.

Interesting information. I'm glad to hear that Nintendo's Gamecube will be better, since they work long and hard for their products, whereas Microsoft just dumps a lot of money and mass produces.

Yeah, Nintendo really took the industy by storm, and Microsoft was a big let down where people were expecting a a new heavy contender. No one was really expecting Nintendo to make such a great showing with their games, even the developers. It was just amazing how far along the games were in such a short time, where prototype xbox kits have been out a lot longer.

That is the CNN (and general) prospective on the show. I am really glad I didn't reserve an XBox (because I did get very close). Nintendo has made some really smart moves lately, including coming out 3 days before and $100 less than the xbox.

MS's console, like the O/S, crashes too much. 1/2 the xbox games I played had to be reset. but then again, this deal is about the PS2, so enough about how Sega should re-release the genesis.

I just got done checking out IGN's coverage of the PS2 showing at E3, and I'm impressed with the future games for PS2. I might stick with it until a clear winner is declaired between Gamecube and X-Box. That is, unless PS2 just ends up whooping both their sorry butts like the original Playstation did.

I plan on buying one of each... didn't get the PS2 earlier cuz I did know the X-Box & Gamecube was rumoured to be out Fall of 2001. Plus there weren't really any titles that really captured me... I'll pick up the PS2 when MGS2 comes out. That's really game I'm waiting anxiously for... =)

As for the X-Box, I must admit that the graphics on their games do look really good. Except that I don't want to donate money to Gates' empire. But I might just have to set aside my principles when it does hit the market, but probably not without some really good coupons....

With regards to the Gamecube, I'm still waiting for some really good games, although some of the games previewed at E3 does look promising. But I'm afraid of the mad rush of new pokemon games... how many more can they come up with!!?!?!?

But from what I understand from reviews and what I know hardware wise about the 3 consoles....PS2 is the one for hardcore gamers, the potential for it has yet to be seen.. even MGS2 is only suppose to be taking advantage of slightly more than current games...

can't wait to see what's in store...

I was at E3 as well. Before I begin, I own a PS2. I love Microsoft Hardware but I hate their business practices.

I want the XBox to be competitive, yet fail. I want it to be competitive to drive the prices down for games and consoles. I want it to fail because MS thinks they are the best and will dominate anything they enter.

I visited the XBox area first. What I saw was complete disappointment (or did it meet my expectations?). The graphics were not spectacular and the frame rates were poor. I saw a couple XBox consoles crash onsite. Not good. The EA area had a few games with the XBox and PS2 right next to each other. The PS2 was smoother in a lot of them and also looked better... but some games just looked and ran the same.

I think everyone will agree with me that the group that stole the show was Nintendo. Their area was PACKED. I mean you had to push and shove your way through there. The graphics were amazing (and fast!). I was very impressed with Nintendo. Too bad there is no DVD playback capabilities...

But the highlights of E3 were the boothbabes, the Saleen S7, Diablo (the car), Gran Turismo 3 and Metal Gear Solid 2.

I take it that you didn't get a chance to see the panasonic gamecube that had dvd playback? It was on display at the nintendo booth. Silver looking thing.

Huh? You mean that Nintendo is letting a seperate company release its own version of the console?

I believe the Panasonic is a DVD player that can run GameCube games.
Only thing is, the Panasonic one is VERY VERY expensive!
So people who just want to play the games will buy the GameCube. Most people have DVD players now anyways.

There has been no announced price yet, but it is supposed to be $300 to go side by side with xbox.

And I read an article.. arggh were is the damned link when you need it, but anyways it was saying something about how the dvd version of the gamecube will not be out till sometime in mid 2002. I dunno it has it's pluses and minuses... I will have a ps2 so no need for the dvd ability on it and without it it will make the first gamecube cheaper. 199 is not bad.

You are correct!
and GameBoy Advance will be $99
The release of the new consoles will probably drive down
the price of the PS2.
