When was the first time you met someone from online?

How did it turn out?

Did you lie about yourself? Did it come back to haunt you?

Did they lie? What did you do when you found out?

Have you done it again?

=======

I first met someone from online about 16-17 years ago (It was Bitnet back then). I was in Maryland and met this UCLA girl and saw her during a family vacation to California. If I wasn't so naive I probably could have scored. I was such a nerd! Anyway, she was about 5 years older and a total fox. I have met many, many people since. It seems that most people who lie a lot realize they will be caught and suddenly cancel at the last moment.

Met someone online 3 yrs back. Turned out pretty well cuz we never had the need to lie. Girl turned out to be a pretty and sweet gal, but somewhere along the line things got nasty. Have I done it again, No. Would I do it again? No. I'd rather befriend people within a short driving distance. Got enough real friends/family scattered all over the globe as is.

We met via email and then finally saw each other for the first time a month and a half later (hadn't even seen a picture) and got married 8 months later. This August, we'll have been married for 5 years. :) I am not sure I'd do the same thing again, but it has turned out wonderfully.

I met someone who I consider a dear friend now about two years ago...while playing poker on pogo. Her mom and dad live about 20 minutes from me, and she grew up in the area I live in. She and her hub and her kids came up to visit her parents for the summer and we had a picnic at a park. Not only did her and I get along, but our husbands as well. She just recently had another baby and I was one of the first ones to see the pictures..(They live in virginia so its hard to travel so far to meet up,but every chance we get-we get together..not to mention phone bills lol.. )It was worth taking a chance at meeting someone from online. If you are seeing this Chris *wave*..cause I know you still lurk..haha

I met my wife on line. Met via email... story is similar to Jenny. Met about a month after we started emailing. Married a year and a half later. Been married two years now.

I met a couple of girls on line when I was back in college years ago. One was attractive, but quite psychotic.
Another was not attractive, and worse, not particularly bright. The third was very, very nice, reasonably attractive, but about as interesting as plain oatmeal.
Needless to say, none of those worked out. :)

All of them were very local, however, less than 20 miles away.

I wouldn't ever have jumped on a plane to meet a stranger.... I guess that just goes one step too far for me. Too much gamble for something so incredibly unlikely to work out.

i've never done it, but i've seen it happen to people i know with both good and bad results.

one of my friends met a guy online, they had a wonderful relationship for 5 years, and were engaged for a time. they finally broke up because, basically, my friend finally got bored of him.

my first roommate in college was very into online friends and cybersex. one weekend she went off to meet some guy she had been talking to online in his hotel. he raped her.

my sister was the matron of honor in her high school friends wedding. or was supposed to be. about a month before the wedding, the groom took off to some bahama island to meet some chick he had been talking to on the internet. he just left one morening like he was going to work, only he went to the airport instead. colleen was pissed, and when his fling with the internet chicky ended (rather quickly) he wanted colleen to take him back. stupid guy.

A friend of mine met her husband online. I've never met anyone from online, but I did go to the same high school as ironchef, although we've never met.

never really "met" ppl on the internet til the past few months. so, never gotten together in person with anyone, but i can't say that i wouldn't ever...

i know a lot of ppl who have done it, mostly with neutral results. like, yeah, you're a person. okay. that's nice. it's just like meeting anyone for the first time, i think, except that you have more pre-conceived ideas about them, some of which are going to turn out to be wrong, some of which are going to turn out to be right.
