View Full Version : Staples Deal that Disappead from deals page: Sony CLIÉ™ PEG-S300 for $159.98
I guess Staples told them to get rid of it. Man, talk about getting your panties all in a bunch. You figure the stuff is on Staples's page anyways.
Luckily, I have it in my cache. Here you go for everone who missed it:
Absolutely ground breaking price on this Sony CLIÉ™ Handheld PEQ S300! It has 8mb of memory, and can be expanded using Sony Memory Sticks. It has Sony`s Jog Dial™ Navigator, uses a Lithium Ion battery, and includes a USB HotSync cradle. Need I say HURRY?
Start here. Do a search for 443756 to get to the Clie. STAPLES (http://www.gotapex.com/deals/external/frames.php?id=858)
Then, check out, using the $40 off a $200+ coupon code stated: 80319
Then, send in the $50 mail in rebate. Expires 5/31/01. REBATE (http://www.sonystyle.com/vaio/popup/clie50_rebate_2up.pdf)

Just got this by UPS today. It actually comes with 2MB flash ROM (so you can upgrade the OS--which is 3.5 installed ), 8MB RAM, and a 8MB Memory Stick. If anyone can find a hardshell case for it, I'd be even happier.

good choice. i have the same one and im starting to like it. from your other post (http://www.gotapex.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=24106) i would have suggested you get the trgpro, but after doing a little research i have found a neat program, msmount (have to find a link for this). anyways, i was looking this page:
http://go.webring.yahoo.com/go?ring=cliewebringinter&id=5&go
there are a lot of cool looking cases out there. unfortunately for us clie users that live in the states, they are not redily availible here. you might want to try http://www.rhinoskin.com for a hardcase. it looks kinda big, but you can find it in this country. it also nearly doubles the weight of the unit (4.27 oz + 4 oz case) but it is very rugged.
heres a direct link to the clie rhinoskin:

also a note on the flash rom, as far as i know, you cant upgrade to palmos 4.0. if you do (if it works) you will lose all jog dail functionality and clie specific programs that are on the flash memory such as msgate. but sony has released palmos v3.5.2 for greater jog dial support and other stuff. dont forget to visit sonys site for the upgrades.

does anyone know if there is a way to access programs directly from the memory stick or is that just not possible and you have to constantly move it from the stick to the internal memory. My programs a pretty big and don't all fit internally.

Thanks Tommy, I agree that the TRGPro would be easier to use, but since this is my first PDA, I'm afraid I'll lose it or break it. The TRGPro is a bit too expensive to be expendable (not that I'd want to lose a Sony Clie for $170 after tax). My friend already lost his $150 Littmann Cardio Master stethoscope (us students have a hard time hearing anything, so we can't get by with cheapo steths like the old pros).
Having gotten my Clie yesterday, I found a forum at http://www.palmblvd.com/boards/SonyClie/ and found myself totally confused. They talked a lot about PowerRun, MS Mount and Mcfile all being used together to get things to run off their Memory Sticks. One encouraging note was from an ER doc that said she configured her Clie to have 40MB of reference on a 64MB Memory Stick, leaving her with 4MB of internal memory.
People on that forum say upgrading to OS 4.0 will cause all sorts of problems with the Clie, so we'll have to wait until Sony (if ever) tweaks it. I wish the Clie had a flip down hard cover like the other PDA's available in the US (available in Japan, like Tommy mentioned). The rhinoskin looks like it can withstand some heavy artillery fire, but its just too big and heavy. This case http://www.palmguess.com/News/Images/fig_case02b%5B1%5D.jpg looks really nice!

Holy Moly! It can't get any cheaper than this. I just ordered mine today and I hope they will charge my cc before 5/31 so I can use the rebate coupon. I can't wait to try out the jog dial. There is nothing in this world like a good jog dial.

you can use programs and databases off the memory stick, but you need some 3rd party applications.
PowerJOG, by HackerDude-san, will allow you to store programs on the memory stick and when you run them, it will automatically copy the program to ram so you can use it.
MSmount is basically the same, but it works for databases. with this utility you can store big databases like ebooks and gameboy roms on the ms.

if you go to handheldmed.com and download their reader 5.0 it will support clie's and will read directly off the MS. No need for MsMount. Regards...
