View Full Version : Pearl Harbor....What did you think?

Well, for those of you who have seen it already, what do you think of the movie. I went and saw it @ 10:15am on Friday. Less than half the theater was filled, it was nice.
Some of the critics are saying that they though the story before the actual bombing was a cheezy love story. Well, I guess I could agree somewhat with that.
Some critics say that there wasn't much feeling shown durning the bombing, well.. there were 3000 people killed. Are you supposed to know EVERY person in the movie. In a movie where there are a lot of people killed, you are going to see a lot of people flying everywhere because of the explosions.
I liked the movie overall. Definately worth seeing.
My roomate said it sucked. He said they couldnt decide between a cheeze love story or a war story, and that both were badly done. Hmm, thats the reason I never saw titanic (love storey or destruction story?). Probably the same will hold true here

i went to see it last night b/c of all the hype and controversy,...
and maybe b/c my expectations were all weird b/c of everything i've been reading,... but it turned out pretty good for me. i loved the effects, and the love story, albeit cheezy, (imo) was better than most movies that are set out to do a love story. =)
i too, think it was definitely worth seeing.

Did you see it, though?
I know it had a lot of hype, but (for me at least), when I see the trailer, that is when I decide if I want to see it in the theater or wait for video or not at all. Every movie has a trailer. :)

The movie complex had 6 or 7 screens showing it and ALL were completely filled. Luckily we got in early and got really good seats. :)
I personally loved the movie. I cried during the love story parts of it, I cried when the people were dying. I laughed a lot (there were some REALLY funny parts in the movie) and just really enjoyed myself.
I honestly went into this movie with VERY little knowledge of WWII. I couldn't have even told you the date that Pearl Harbor was bombed. My hubby is a history buff and he said although the movie wasn't totally historically accurate, it was done well. I came out with a much greater understanding and much greater amount of knowledge about the people and the war itself. To me, it was definitely worth the $8.00 for the ticket and $3.50 (!! gah!!!) for the large drink. :)

It's a shame that the movie couldn't have been released on the 60th anniversary of the bombing. But no, Hollywood has to be greedy and release it on a summer holiday weekend.

Well I guess I'll have to face the fact that I am going to have to see this movie. I am a little afraid of the production/direction team of Jerry Bruckheimer/Michael Bay though. The last flick I remember these two teaming up for was Armageddon. Even though the Rock with Nick Cage and Shown Coanirry(pronounced phonetically) was cool, Armageddon was absolutely unbearable to watch at times. I know some people who like that movie but for me it was like rubbing tobasco in my eyes.
One movie that I was pleasantly surprised that I saw recently was Shrek. I seriously thought it was going to be just for kids but I have to admit it I laughed a lot during it. Watching movies like those it makes me wish I lived closer to some movie theatres so I could go more often.
Hmmm best movie experience....that sounds like a good Thread Topic. :)

My Girlfriend and I watched it last night. It was a DAMN long movie. It was pretty good!
Chicks would probably dig it more than guys because it is mainly a love story.
I would recommend seeing it in a good theater one with lots of padding for rump.
The theater I watched it in was packed only 2 seats open in the joint. And it was showing on three screens they said it had been selling out for most showings.

I haven't seen it yet, and probably won't, but just curious. Did the movie deal with the issue of how the government knew about the attack and how they didn't prevent it and their reasons for not doing so??
Let me guess....no?? I find it very hard to believe that they could fit a war story, love story, and a political drama in one movie, no matter how long it is (Maybe Steven Soderborgh)... As a matter of fact, I wouldn't believe it if Jerry Bruckheimer/Michael Bay could deal with just a political drama, period...but that's just me....
It sorta did, actually. Not directly, but it did.

I'm not even gonna rent it...I'll wait till a friend of mine rents it and then I'll watch it if I happen to be there when that happens. And I'll only stay if they have cold beer and snacks.

Yeah, you and me both. I saw it Sunday night, and was really just, well, entertained. Probably not a movie I'd get on DVD (although I'll bet it'll look just sick on a good TV and a progressive scan player), and it could have used maybe 60% less pee-n'-poo jokes, but I thought there was lots of chemistry between Eddie and Mike. Maybe a live-action movie for them? That'd be funny too...
Defintely a pleasant surprise. It's got great word of mouth going, too: it's second week gross actually went up, from $45.3m to $45.5m. That's pretty wild.

Thanks Ucbstan, you're just super-duper...
I think the main reason I liked Independance Day, is because I saw it the night it came out on July 3rd at midnight. The theater was packed, and everyone was cheering and shit. It was a very cool American pride type atmosphere.

I don't respect that opinion about the Rock. How could you not like that movie? "Are you fucking nuts?!" (Marvin Isherwood)

I agree.. I saw it on one of the first days with a packed theater and that helped to have everyone really get into it cheering and stuff. :)

I totally respect that as well...I admit I didn't like ID4 that much (I watched it 4 times though:)), but if I were in the same situation, I probably would would have enjoyed it just as much, cause I love those psyched up group atmospheres...
If you like those psyched up atmospheres, you should watch The Rock with me. :johnwoo2: I'll definitely get into it. :)
