View Full Version : my favorite thread, and i know it's yours........
stuff from our past!
here are some toys that i remember from my childhood days (i didn't own all of them):
rock 'em sock 'em robots. these guys were cool. hours of endless boxing fun. i just watched raging bull last night, too...lol.
star wars action figures. these were the best! as if the movie wasn't enough, i got to be luke skywalker. then vader was much more cool, so i finished my tenure as him. i had the xwing fighter, too. wanted the tie fighter. had the small die cast tie fighter....which was no match for the xwing which was 100 times its size.
green machine. wanted one, but never had one. didn't even have a big wheel, but an imitation one. actually, i think my imitation one was better....it was metal. but as a kid, you get envious of the "real thing."
skeletor action figure. he-man was ok, but not as cool as skeletor.
stretch armstrong. i think maybe inherited from older generations, but still very cool. you could pull this guy's arms and he would never break. you had to do the bit like in the hitcher....where rutger hauer tied her to the semi and.... :puke:
g.i. joe with kung fu grip. we didn't learn until later that david carradine was actually the one with kung fu grip, and that he taught g.i. joe the technique. he was qualified cuz he was the white guy that played a chinese guy better than chinese guys.
dukes of hazard car. i didnt even want the duke characters. just the car. later, most kids wanted daisy, too.
nerf football. they all somehow became waterlogged, and had one end bitten off by some dog.
i know there's more. help me out here.....

When I was little, I wanted the teenage mutant ninja turtles pizza shooter vehicle.
Also, there was that hot shots basketball thing. You would flip a ball into the air using the flipper while the backboard would move back and forth.

damn, m0j0's list is about identical to mine... cept i was princess leia (usually... sometimes i was vader...)
my best friend had a green machine.
and YES, i remember muscle men!!!! i had about a hundred. they were this odd not-quite-flesh-like shade of pink. i have no idea now why i liked them, but i thought they were cool.
still have my garbage pail kids. thousands. i shudder to think of all the quarters i spent on those.
still have all of my dungeons and dragons books. all the maps i drew, all the dog-eared modules, all of my characters... mage/thief half-elf chicks kick ass.
when i was really little, i also loved fake food. those little plastic slices of pizza and miniature cereal boxes.
in high school, i stretched a stretch armstrong beyond his elastic limit and he remained permanently disfigured. oops.
and my little pony and strawberry shortcake and all those little blue plastic smurf figurines. no flaming, i can be feminine, sometimes, so DEAL WITH IT!!!!
also, does anyone remember those little green spacemen that were like smurfs, and they came in happy meals? they were called zorks or something. they were cool.
legos, legos, legos. and tinkertoys and lincoln logs. i wish i had saved my lincoln logs for my kid, cause they are monstrously expensive these days. ooo! and capsela!!! they kicked ass!!!!
"science labs" always sucked. could never find any combination of chemicals that would explode.
barbie can die screaming.

chicken wings from our local chinese take-out
legos
remote controled cars
and don't worry welfare, I slept with stuffed animals. And I named them all. My parents were laughing and smiling when they watched me play with them, but I'm sure they were a little bit worried inside.

Goodness... where to start?
I too had Strawberry shortcakes and My Little Ponies... don't laugh or I will get Welfare after ya! :)
I also had Matchbox cars -- I loved launching them off the bunk beds!
Cabbage Patch Kids -- I had 3 Nancy Tiffany, Alex Baldwin and Les. Les was cool cuz my dad picked him up in Japan for me in 1985. I was a little old for them then, but it was cool cuz he was dressed in traditional wear and the adoption papers were in Japanese.
I think my favorite was my record player and 45's. I had a bunch.. the sad thing is that my first mainstream song I bought on a 45 was by Hall and Oats. :( But I got better ... my first 33 was the soundtrack to Grease! :)
You know, I have a toy I got in Japan when I was a baby. I don't know much about it and would love more info. It is a robot. Red and there was something about cockroaches. Dunno, the robot came with a bunch of plastic cockroaches. It was a product of a TV show and I have records (45's) of music from the show.

Are you talkin bout those little pink guys? I think I still have some of those.
I still have a bunch of transformers, and a big robotech airplane/robot. That toy was so well made. Transformers kinda sucked. My optimus prime's arms fell off, and my megatron's gun barrel broke off. One drop and those things were gone. Did anyone mention go-bots? I still remember the theme song to that cartoon. "Go-Bots, Go-Bots! Mighty Vehicles, GO-BOTS!"

my favorite toy was JEM, cause she was truely outrageous. my sibilings and i had about 20 different JEM dolls, and we used to play with them all the time. and what made these dolls different was the fact that we actually cared if we broke them or lost them, so now, we have all these dolls in great condition. :)
also, i LOVED teenage mutant ninja turtles. i was even sorta old when they came out, but i still loved Michealangelo. he rocked.
and i didn't have a green machine, bud i did have a powder puff big wheels.

No, no - don't panic! They still make the good 'ol original hand powered non-sucky Sit-n-Spin! I bought one for my daughter about 2 years ago, and she still plays with it. I think I got it at Toys R Us...
