Ok so I drove an Acura 3.2 TL Type S. That thing kicks ass!!! I love it. Think I might get it. Got the power and handling I was looking for but still with the creature comforts to make city driving not such a chore.

Yeah that car looks a lot nicer than the cl type s IMO. Great value too. It's a pretty big car though. Good choice!

I guess I'm not the only one who thinks the new CL looks really wierd. So many people think it looks good, but I just don't understand what they're talking about...The TL on the other hand looks great. I think it's a good mixture of "luxury sedan-ness" + "sportiness."

Yep, I'm probably going to get the same thing. It's still pretty "Honda-y", but it looks great in blue and black. Plus, its nav system is, as far as I've experienced, the best on the market. 50 states, reverse phone number lookup, etc.etc.

I just don't understand how Acura can put a car like that together for $30K and BMW and Mercedes can't even put a stripper together for less that $31K.

BMW and Mercedes are pricier than Acura's because Acura's "recycles" their parts to keeps costs down. The TL is basically using the same chasis as the Accord, which keeps the costs down. Not to mention a few other parts.

Oh yeah.

OK, then explain Audii. Largely based on VW platforms.

I'm not quite sure. Audi's and VW's are nice cars but I've never really considered getting one so I've never looking into them. I was contemplatying getting a TL, but I didn't like the instrument panel and the brakes were kind of weak compared to the IS300 and 325i. But overall, its a pretty sleek car. Plenty of space, good driving position, loads of power and pretty good handling. Navigation System was alright. Oh and gotta love the standart Xenon lights. For some reason though, that car only looks good in black.

Well, if you're going to compare it to the IS or the 3-series, remember you have to take into account that it's also a lot bigger (i.e., comfortable back seats).

I don't think they're really competitors, though. It is a front-driver, and is kind of a more luxo-sedan with sports overtones. I mean, show me another sports sedan with a six disk in-dash or a 3,500lb curb weight.

I'm not buying it expecting it to keep up with a Boxster. I'm getting it to satisfy any sports-car complex I might have while getting the utility question answered. :)

how do the prices compare?

Dunno exactly, but the M5 has gotta be at least twice as much as a TL type S. I would go for the TL, the M5 aint that great a car. At least not for the price.

The M5 goes for about 60K MSRP but due to high demand if you happen to see one at the dealership like I recently did they go for a kewl 90K-100K. Definitely not worth the price.

And I think the TL surpasses the IS300. Bigger, more power, more features, great handling. Thought, you can tweak the IS more than the TL so if you're a true tweaker then you might consider an IS.

I have to agree with penny about the IS not comparable to the TL. The only reason I brought it up earlier was because it was within the price range I was looking for for a sports sedan. The TL is a sporty family car than compact sports sedan. Like the Maxima. Whereas the 3-Series/IS/A4/S60/93/C240-320 are more compact sports sedans.
I do think that the IS is superopr handling and braking than the TL though. But as far as ammenities and overall value, the TL is the better of the two. Personally I wanted a Mercedes, but the 3 month waiting list was too long for me. I got all worked up waiting 1 week for my 325i. Can't imagine waiting 3 months.

I was initially on that 3 month wait list for the Mercedes. I'm assuming you're talking about the 2001 C class. My dealer was able to find one for me that matched my specs in 3 days.

I'm pretty sure the TL Type S probably handles and brakes better than a Saab 9-3 or an S60. Tested both in the course of my car seach, and both perform like whales...dead whales....dead whales that have begun to bloat, and have maggots chewing on the bloating.
