For those that ordered the supposed computer for $98 from Staples be warned: Staples decided that it was in their best interest not to honor the $25 coupon and went ahead and charged me $133. I called immediately after getting the E-mail confirmation last Monday to try and cancel the order but they told me that I would have to refuse delivery to get my refund.

Needless to say, I called their CS and gave them an earfull. Both confirmations I recieved from Staples had the price at $98 and then they charged me full price. Personally I think they are criminal but I'm sure some of you will laugh at me for saying that. Staples is the worse online ordering experience I have ever had.

BTW..is there a site that one can report bad business practices?

Wait wait.....computer? I thought it was only a Hard Drive. If it's a whole computer, I'll buy the computer off your back for 133 + whatever shipping costs I will incur.

Anyways, I do believe that if you're not satisfied with it, just refuse shipment. I've done that many times, and the companies have honoured the situation. If you actually want the HDs, and was actually only expecting to pay 98 dollars for it, then bring it to the store and demand compensation. If that doesn't work, then just return it there.

True, Staples have had quite a few snafus and definitely need to work on CS, but you must remember that most of these deals listed here are to the point where the company loses money.

Just because a company misprints an ad, don't think you have some undeniable right to it. most companies have protection, including clauses that state that mistakes will not be honoured. People make mistakes, companies are comprised of people...wow, bet most people forget that fact.

Be happy if you got in on a super deal. Don't get steamed up on the missed ones. More deals will always roll around, and just be happy if you can get one. Don't think it's a God-given right

Just to type in defense of staples: Every business transaction that I have had with them has been very good. Their CSR are very courteous and helpful, they have a great return policy. The only reason why people have come to hate staples is because they have only tried to purchase from staples when they try to get 500 dollars worth of goods for 20 dollars shipped. While they should perhaps handle the situation better, I totally understand their reaction when they are looking at loosing millions of dollars worth of invoice for mere pennies. Lay off of staples. I still think they are a great company that still offers good prices and deals. The only instances that perhaps you receive a gruff response is during these mistakes or other "hot" deals that perhaps were not authorized.

Yes, I have to say taht Staples have been very good to me. They have honored every coupon I've used and their CS reps are the best I've had to talk with.

Too bad about your experience, but it shouldn't discourage potential shoppers from considering Staples.

Holly smoke...people are defending staples on this board. It's nice to see people can change their attitudes. http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/smile.gif

Whoa, doggies, hold on. Staples IS one of the worst shopping experiences a lot of us have had. I hope this guy's experience DOES at least alert potential shoppers about Staples poor practices vis a vis the coupons they issue. Frankly, doesn't it strike anyone as strange that they, after allegedly losing their shirts in the last year to coupons and what not, that they have yet to change up their practices? They STILL have 5 digit coupons that are not customer specific, they STILL fire out orders for different prices than what they agreed to, and they have put two phantom charges on my credit card in the last three months alone. This is, bar none, one of the worst run sites out there, and I for one am not ashamed in the least of letting other folks on this board know that fact. I have had nothing but dissatisfactory service with them (a by-product of my coupon "abuse"?) and am sorry I ever used my credit card with them. There, I said it.

You gotta be kidding. One of the WORST experiences on the internet?

Come on.

Guys, you're missing my point entirely! I expected to get charged the $98....no prob! But to confirm on the reciept that the coupon worked and then to E-mail me a confirmation in the amount of $98....that's as good as a handshake! You don't just charge somebody an extra $35 without first at least contacting the consumer first!

Let me ask you guys who defended Staples this: Company A has an item that you are thinking about purchasing for $200. They have a coupon for $100 off that product which you go for. After making the purchase, you get a E-Reciept in the amount of $100. Days later you find out that they charged you the full price of $200....is that fair? If that's the case I'll just open my own E-Site and advertise everything at cost, but I'll charge list price upon shipping! I'm certainly not looking for a free ride anywhere and I never abuse coupons, let's just say I'll be doing my business with companies who belive in customer satisfaction.

BTW...Pshyco, did I say I had an undeniable right to anything? No, I just said I was pissed that they billed my credit card $35 more than they said they would!

Ken....yes, one of the worst experiences...and your point?

Muff,

did you do the OfficeMax deal? When I tried in the Chicago area, they called. When I tried downstate, it worked. How about that? I'm just glad to have stuck it to them (even though i feel bad because it was dishonest!)

Ah, more Staples argument. It's been awhile since there was big debate over them(hehe). I wonder when Office Depot and/or Office Max will get such an infamous recognition.

dude staple flat out charge my card for 238 for something i don't know.... now they say it takes them 8 weeks to resolve the issue...i was raising havoc... but in the end i wrote a letter to my cc....

Staples definitely does not have the right to charge your CC for anything other than the agreed upon price.
I was a part of the big coupon fiasco & am still waiting for my credit.
If Staples did not want to honor the coupons - FINE.... Just cancel the order then... BUT UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD THEY HAVE CHARGED MY CC FULL PRICE WITHOUT MY CONSENT!!!
That is outright illegal!!!
And that's all I have to say about that.

wow, there are still people waiting on credits from staples? (i HATE their bait and hook tactics) I got my credit a day or two after they picked up my stuff. Hey, whatever happened to that guy whose stuff was sent all the way out to massachusetts and they tried to charge him full? Well, I hope that things work out for you, G_Sup. I wouldn't advise jumping on any staples deal unless you have a very trusting/loyal cc company.

oh yeah, and are they sending your the computer at that price or the hard drive?! If they're sending you the computer, don't sweat it dude! I wouldn't mind being ripped off for 35 bucks when i am in the process of "stealing" hundreds of theirs. If it's the hard drive, then it's a decent deal without the coupon and a bad deal without, so you gotta fight it.

deal sucks even with the coupon, considering that they were selling the 27gb maxtor for 120.

This is kinda dumb... Most of you are complaining that Staples wouldnt let you rip them off. This is why theyre the worst? They ship better than Outpost, and you can go to your local Staples to return. Sounds fine to me. And complaining that you couldnt rip them off for a full computer when it was actually just the hard drive? Give me a break, you guys are like 5 years old. When you arent getting $1000 off a $50 purchase, theyre not bad at all.

AJ, you obviously didn't read my thread so I won't even bother wasting my time on yours, so please, take off your Staples employee badge and relax.

AJ:
Before you go shootin' yer mouth off, maybe you should examine the specific complaints some of these users have. They're no longer complaining that Staples won't accept their 90% discounts. They (we, actually) are pissed off that a company that has the right to protect itself, has elected to inconvenience its customers by overcharging, phantom charging, and being a$$holes in general. A pain-in-the-ass cc charge is not my idea of fun, nor is are bad business practices like switching prices. So take your soapbox, throw it on your high horse, and take the requisite time to READ before you let your knee jerk.
I apologize to the community at large, I don't normally wade into these discussions in this manner, but I see our disagreements turning into recitations of rhetoric.
