Fine print says "please present original coupon at time of purchase. No copies/facimilies."
So good luck if you try it.

I just tried the coupon at the Staples in Center City Philly and they wouldn't take it... the other $10 off $10 coupon didn't work either.

Ok.. where the HECK did that coupon originate from? The guy at Staples tried scanning it, that didn't work. Then he typed in the full code number and that didn't work. Then he held the coupon up to the monitor and made sure he entered it correctly. Then he tried entering just the first five numbers under a different coupon-entering screen, that didn't work. Finally he just typed in the -$15.00 and that took $15.00 off the total. Then he put the coupon printout in his printer so that the machine could put it's info on the coupon, and it only printed half way on the coupon. He put my stuff in a bag and put it on the counter and I picked it up and headed for the door with it. Then he came running after me saying "Ma'am! Ma'am!" I completely ignored him, but he caught up with me in the parking lot outside where he said "sorry, it took me a minute to get the receipt to come out of the machine". I thought for sure that he was going to try to get me to come back and return the stuff, and I was trying to figure out what I was going to say! I had paid in cash, and I'm not sure what the legal ramifications of the whole deal would have been, but I'm fairly sure he couldn't have done much about it once I was outside the store, although I was still on store property, so who knows. Anyhow, I came away with 30 Memorex CD-R's with slim jewel cases for $6.98. Probably not the best deal, but I couldn't find anything else slightly above $15 that I really wanted.

I went to check out with the coupon & the cashier wouldn't accept the coupon. I asked to see the manager & after arguing with her for 10 minutes she still would not take the coupon.
It wasn't until I threatened legal action with the Better Business Bureau & the Federal Trade Commission did she finally agree to take the $15 off.
That always seems to work. Whenever they are not being cooperative, I mention BBB or FTC and that seems to scare them straight.

Remember that episode of Seinfeld where Jerry's uncle (played by Mel Brooks) tried to rip a store off with a whole bunch of coupons and he ended up thrown in jail? Isn't this kinda like that? Isn't this considered coupon fraud? Don't get me wrong. I'm all for saving a little bit of money here and there but I would like to do it within the boundaries of the law. Going to jail because of $15 is just not worth it. That is just my two cents. I know there are a lot of poor people out there who $15 to them is the difference between a hot meal and starving for a night.
woohoo
Just worked for me, 6:45pm at the west LA store

Had a whole bunch of coupons printed out and a whole staples route figured out. Was going to go to about 10 of them with 2 friends. Tried the first 2 stores and both of them said no. One guy said they got voicemail saying that they don't take the coupons and the other guy said that they're only accepting the coupons from the postcard the ones that are $10 off $100. He said they got an e-mail about it. Oh well. Good thing i got to use the $10 one 2 days ago. Got myself a Phd pen and a pen/pencil/stylus combo for about $1.50.
Maybe I should've mentioned the BBB to them too. :-)

You guys know that by using a copied version of this coupon that you are just stealing from the company. The coupon states right on it that it is non transferable. Nobody knows the true origin of this coupon. For all you know, it could be made up.
Do you guys shoplift? I dont see any difference between scamming Staples out of $15 and shoplifting.

That's not entirely a logical argument, for example, there are 3 Staples within a 5 mile radius of my home. Two are considered in a different "region" than the other one. One of them accepts all competetors coupons as well as other Staples coupons, the other two stores don't. So it really depends on the individual store and manager. This particular store will even pricematch other stores that aren't Office/Computer supply stores such as CVS, Sears, ToysRUs as long as it's an identical item and I have proof. They have gladly and knowingly accepted both the $10 and $15 coupon from me because they accept all Staples coupons. I really don't think I was "shoplifting" or even "scamming". If there was anything wrong with the coupon, they could always say "sorry" we're not accepting that coupon as many other Staples have.

Its a personal choice. Obviously you see it differently than many people (including myself). This is the same type of thing with those 200 off 200 coupons for staples.com a year ago, just only on a smaller scale. If the store decides to honor the coupon, then its not stealing. Stealing would be doing it without the approval of the store, and would be illegal. but when a cashier puts the coupon in, takes 15 off, the store is giving you permission to the discount. There is no similarity. How about using a coupon for 50 cents off milk, you're 'stealing' hard earned money from the market by your logic. allright, I could go on, but Im just boring myself now.
