Ironic isn't it that Tim McVeigh was alleged to have been involved in the Oklahoma City Bombing because Janet Reno screwed up at Waco during her first few days in office.

Now, just after she is gone, it seems that the FBI has been guilty of grevious acts of misconduct that will put his case in jeopardy.

Does this spell the end of her campaign for Florida Governer?

If McVeigh somehow gets a new trial what will happen?

Is Ashcroft through if McVeigh beats him in Court?

And for m0j0, isn't Jenna Bush at least partially responsible?

Although I understand he may have legal right to contest as a result of the FBI's failing to pass along all evidence prior to the trial, is the information -- in and of itself -- enough to have the conviction overturned? While there may be legal grounds to extend what I would consider to be the conclusion to this saga, his execution, but I conviction overturned or new trial; no.

Friends that are lawyers, criminal and civil, say these types of errors are not unusual (...and in this case there were millions of documents to contend with). Scary, though, to think that in a case with such importance, there wouldn't have been a greater attention to detail.

The problem is that certain FBI agents (and former agents) like SA Ojeda (who was on 60 minutes II) claim that EXCULPATORY evidence (that likely to HELP the defense) was ignored, thrown away or not given to the defense.

This was based on first hand knowledge of the people that found it.

Obviously the FBI claims otherwise... and when have we known them to lie :-)

um, I have a question: Didn't McVeigh confess? Stand up and say "I did it"? Whether or not the FBI screwed up (they did big time), the dude is guilty--he told us so! I don't know what "new evidence" could possibly do to help him. He is still the admitted guilty party. Hang 'em.

Its never that easy. He could have been coerced. Or drugged. Or hypnotized.

Perhaps he was involved in an operation that was bigger than just him. He may have plead guilty because he was guilty, or it was his job to take the blame, or he thought he was guilty but really wasn't. I'm thinking maybe what's in those hidden files may point to a larger conspiracy, and by asking for a stay or retrial, Tim can try to force that information to be made public. Just a thought.

Could McVeigh be the next Lee Harvey Oswald?

Here is another simpler explanation... BOASTING.

He was about to be executed, felt very desperate (they reported that he stopped eating) and so he lashed out by acting unremorseful.

This is actually fairly common.

Additionally, it is not uncommon for people to claim responsibility for terrorism they never did (i.e. Son of Sam, Unabomber, Night Stalker, and all the other famous cases where other people who were innocent claimed they were the killers). Now if only OJ could convince "the real killers" to confess.

Tempest in a teapot.

He did it. The new documents are unlikely to expose anything dramatic.

This delays his execution while they sort it all out, fire a few incompetant paper shufflers, and make sure everything is proper.

Then McVeigh gets his just desserts.

Reno? No real chance in Florida anyway. She's too hated.
In fact, Florida is the only state where anyone would even consider her as a candidate. With the election debacle, Jeb Bush is vulnerable. Carrot Top could probably win a run off between the three of them...
