I just got my Iomega 12x4x32....

It is an IDE, but my question is should i hook it up to my Promise ATA100 card or just to the motherboards controler??

Will I benefit by hooking it up to the ATA 100??

Thanks guys.

it is a DMA33 drive....

there will be no benefit to hooking it up to the promise, it wouldn't hurt unless you put the CD Drive on the same cable as a ata100 HDD, if you were to do that you would slow the HDD down to DMA33...

so if posable put it on the main board chanel...

My motherboard has 2 DMA33, and 2 DMA66 (promise) built on, so I have my DVD and burner on the dma33, and then my data HDD on the promise 66, then I have a raid card for my OS....

I say hook it up to the motherboard. Some controller cards have problems with non-hard drives. You wouldn't get ANY benefit hooking it up to the ATA/100 card, and you may not be able to boot off the drive if it's not attached to the motherboard. Plus, the CD drive might steal a little bandwidth from the hard drive depending on how you hook it up.
