correction: PIC classes

here at UCLA, there are CS (Computer Science) and PIC (Programming in Computing) classes. CS classes are damn hard (except for CS 31), and PIc classes are damn simple (except for PIC 10c and PIC 40). Only engineers are allowed to take CS classes, and only CS&E/CS/EE people can take upper division CS courses.

ps - the PIc 10a and 10b programs are pretty straightforward, and honestly...if you know how to program, they'll take you an hour or two to get the actual coding down...but the kinds of programs that they assign have ass-backward requirements, and as such...you spend the majority of your time debugging the programs (or at least...that's how it was for me in 10b. 10a only took about 15-45 minutes per program, except for the last program that took me over 3 hours)

Have you taken PIC10A and PIC10B, Pro? Cause I just had my final for PIC10B and it wasn't as easy as you claim and I know PERL, HTML, and Java. (more of some than others). I've shown the programs that I've had to do for HW to advanced CS majors and they agree that they are way too much for a PIC10B class. More for an advanced PIC10C class. And whatever you want to call them PIC or CS it's all programming.

This may be late coming, but oh well... The delay is because I usually just skip over threads started by Loki (which would imply i don't correct everything you say), but in this case...I'll grab the bait. Yes, I took both PIC 10A and 10B. I also sat in on CS 31 because I was curious of the difference, and I'll easily admit that CS classes are more complex than PIC classes (PIC is to CS what Physics 10 (Physics for poets) is to Physics 1H (Physics for scientists and engineers - honors). I took 10A during fall quarter and 10B during winter quarter of Freshman year (you know...that year when you were my neighbor?) Those were 2 of the only A's that I got that year (I had to go back and have the prof re-grade 3 problems on my 10A final to get the A because i did them in a different way from the prof, but my way worked and used fewer lines of code)... If you had Leonard for 10B, then I'll admit that it might have been a bit of a challenge. That guy was a horrible teacher and he looked like a coffee shop poet, but it still doesn't even rank in the top 10 most difficult classes that I've taken here so far (which include 4 math classes, 1 chemistry, 3 physics, and 2 labs). Maybe I'm just used to damn-hard classes... In conclusion :rolleyes:
