Today's hip-hop word:

bling bling

How the hell did this originate? People heard it in a song.

It is just funny how peole use words from music, but once a new song comes out with a new word that someone made up, peole start using that. :)

the first time i heard it was from the icy hot suckaz site. then i heard passwird describe twilight's crown as a bling. is this word something that i can use for ppl to get its meaning from the context? and what is the song where i can hear its origin?

the question is why did the lakers have this phrase put into their rings last year?

never heard about that lakers thing, never heard that song either. but my friend told me that "bling bling" is the "sound" that ice makes when it shines. ice, being diamonds. so everyone...stick out your fists and say it with pride!

Just for the record, B.G. is a rapper who is part of the Cash Money Millionaires (along with Juvinile, Lil Wayne, and Turk).

Passwird is correct... the term "bling bling" originated with B.G.'s song of the that name which described his jewelry and his "riches".

People have just adopted this slang term to mean just about anything of value...

that is what i thought it meant.

sorry about my ignorance. i have been listening to be-bop...not hip hop. i will do better in the future.

Cuz any other phrase would be too complicated for Shaq to remember.
