S: Long Distance Relationships

Boy they suck ... spend lottsa money on phone calls and you don't even know if things will work out in the long long term... and you don't get to talk nor see that person everyday and you are lucky if u hear from him/her that day via phone, email, etc.

i told you...i work a lot. and when i get home, i'm tired. i'm sorry it has to be this way. but neither of us is willing to quit our jobs. besides...i never had the heart to tell you this, but i am more of a muscle car kind of guy :P

No, it's just that she does not post as often as you guys...

Since I started posting I might as well reply also. I think the big factor is trust in the relationship. Also if your very serious about it and deeply in love I don't think you will think much about the phone call costs and should not even doubt the future of the relationship.

Personally I prolly will not mind long distance relationships... Of course if I had a choice I rather be close :) Just my 2 cents.

And you must be a grown woman cause you're intuitions are dead on!! :D Yes, I'm a guy and since I feel really bad, I'll try to contribute to this thread in a productive way.

I just got out of a 3 1/2 year long distance relationship last November. She was 5 thousand miles away across the Pacific. So I saw her about 2-3 months out of the year. Personally, I think there's ALWAYS something to learn and benefit from with each relationship you have no matter how bad it ends up. So I've never regreted doing it, but if you asked me if I would do it again.... I'd probably say NEVER. I think the only thing that made it last so long was my naiveness. The worst part is that the only way you get to know each other is over the phone, so you develop all these fantasies(not those kinky kinds) and unsure expectations....years later you think you know him/her like the back of you hand, but DO you really?? I think you will mature and grow with every relationship you go through. I wouldn't recommend long distance ones if you can help it, but if you happen to get in one don't worry. Just make the best of it. Whatever happens, you will earn something precious, whether it be a life-long partner or patience and insight into the nature of human emotions. Don't stress IntegraTypeR. You seem like a cool girl that will make the most of any situation. :thumbup:

my fiance and i survived a year doing long distance. she went to oxford for a year just a few months after we started seeing each other. email, the occasional phone call and spring break certainly helped.

but, the point is, they can work :)

ok...i apologize for my wiseass-edness. it seems like i just can't shut up sometimes.

as far as advice...thanks for the thought...but i try not to dispense advice. too much liability there, and ppl should really think for themselves. unless it's one of my zombies...i think for them. but back on the subject...if you wanna talk, i am a damned good listener. i even stay awake like over 80% of the time. i will even give feedback (no, not the jimi hendrix kind...unless that is what you want ;) ) when necessary. and, yes, i had a long distance relationship. it sucked, cuz i am a lying....nevermind.

nope, CluelessSi and I were never an item. We do, however, happen to be good friends. ^_^

Thanx for the pep talk ucbstan ... After my first fiasco with long distance relationships I had vowed never to get into one again .. and here I am again, in a long distance relationship. Last time it was only west coast-east coast ... and now it is west coast-across the Pacific Ocean. When will I ever learn. I am actually kinda losing hope b/c the guy actually complained that I call him too much .. how is that for gratitude?! Well I will have to see what happens and I will keep you posted.
